Good tip, thanks! That said, compositing up until this point is being done in Nuke.

Brief as it was, nice work. The engine glow looks good. :)

Yeah, loving the look of this, could easily be a shot from the movie, nice work.

    Thanks all!

Here's a blow up of one of the frames, with the foreground cockpit frame removed:

If you're using Nuke, check out expoglow on Nukepedia. You'll love it.

@PixelMagic: thanks for the tip, I'll check it out!

@scifieric: thank you, it's been a lot of fun!

    More to come soon :)

Work continues (this render is in more of a studio environment) :

    xwing_studio.jpg

Finished adding the styrene chips, I did more texture work on the fuselage, shader updates, etc. - still lots to do.

Always a pleasure to see how this is shaping up. Loving the level of detail you're getting in there, both in geometry and textures.

Yep what Talon said, looks like a photo of a studio model mate, coming along great! :)

They wished their studio models looked this good!
  • stonkystonky350 Posts: 489Member
Thanks all! It's been a lot of fun, although the dozens of chips were a pain to model and uv. :)

Hot damn. Terry-it looks like the real thing!:)

Thanks pal! Still some work to do, but I think that it's getting closer.

    A closer look:

    xwing_studio2.jpg

I made the light a little more neutral (it was pretty warm in the last one) to better reflect the actual color.

    Amaze balls!

I think between you Chris and Mike's Xwing we have one amazing squadron!

    Looks fake :p

    Love it! :D

@Wiz: That's some good company - thanks pal!
    @ homerpalooza67: :)

    From behind:

I just realized that I still have the same large engine cans on each side here - I have to switch one out for the other Saturn V variant. :)

This is looking fantastic. The level of detail is awesome. :)

Hey stonky, I think this thread needs to be under the physical modeling WIP section and not 3D. ;)
  • Road WarriorRoad Warrior207 Posts: 815Member
Are you going to go all crazy with those mad texturing skills of yours and do so other liveries such as rogue squadron ships?
  • stonkystonky350 Posts: 489Member
@evil_genius_180: Thank you! Modeling all of the little junk was monotonous but I think that it helps with the scale.
    @stfanboy: lol I wish :)
@Road Warrior: Thank you. :) Red 5 is probably next - I don't know if I can match every little scratch but I'll try to get the specific markings/paneling close. That said there's still a bunch on this one that I want to add/fix.

Thanks again for the kind words, it means a lot - more to come.

Holy crap, that was a render; simply outstanding (both on the detail and the rendering)!

It does look mentally good, I'd keep getting this mixed up with that physical X-Wing model thread if that was the same era.

You've certainly got some talent there fella.

    LOL You're too kind. :)

A little more work on R2 (the lights are off but you get the idea):

Another stunning render, looks like a photo to me.

    ;)

    Using PBR I'm guessing?
  • stonkystonky350 Posts: 489Member
Haha yeah he's asleep, probably because this is taking so long. :)

    Thank you! And yes, PBR.

DAYAM that's gorgeous. What are you using for your reflection/lighting map?
I'd love to see what you'd do with my C3PO model, although it's probably beneath your level.
  • stonkystonky350 Posts: 489Member
I dunno, my level is pretty low. :)

Thank you! To be honest, there's not much remarkable going on here - the HDR isn't anything special, just a typical spherical HDR environment map. Like I had mentioned before as well, the geometry is SUPER (embarrassingly :) ) simple, and the shading isn't that complex either (no dual spec clear coat on the blue paint, no anisotropy on the spun metal, etc.). Meant to be seen at a distance.

Looks the business to me, even close up. Goes to show that you needn't go all fancy with the shaders to get fantastic results though.
