With now being on pertrunaity leave, I have left the files for the type 11 shuttle at work, so I have started work on a small project have been meaning to do for a while now.
Hope there's enough people that played this; Xenogears. I started playing the game some time at the end of February (haven't touched it since 2001) and besides the fact that I found out that I have almost no patients for the game like I used to, I did remember there were many things I've always wanted to model but never had the expertise at that time. I've been out of practice and I'm not really sure what I will finish, but this is what I have thus far...(I took all the screen shots)
I started with a Solaris Gate Generator (not finished needs walls and doors also I'm adding more detail that may or may not be in the original) and I've also started Aerial City Shevat (not shown, to early to post anything substantial)
Might as well update what I'm doing now, since it is the same as I was doing earlier, only further along These are some of the renders I produced over the rather lovely Easter weekend. Click for the page on my site and a bigger version. The rest can be seen here: http://www.prdobson.com/project/mclaren-ford-mp4-8/
It does come off again It will stay on until I've finished it now anyway, as it speeds the renders up, and there will not be anything new to see in there now.
We found it a bit odd that you named it "The Orion"... Most would just use "Orion" on the side of the ship while referring to it as "the orion"...
Are those circle-sector segments partially retractable? If so, how far? Is the core of the vessel in possession of enough thickness to allow all 3+3 segments to retract fully?

i don't know why.. i was just looking at name-sites to find a name for the ship.. there i found The Orion.

those sectors (gravity generators) are rotating 360A°, i'll render a animation soon.
From our understanding, vessels are generally not named "The" anything... they generally get just a single name, and "Orion" is a good a name as any...
the segments rotate along the ship axis? or do those 1/3rd circle segments rotate separately?
still wondering on that previous question... can they be retracted inwards, or are they designed to stay projected out like that all the time? (while rotating)

the two segments are rotating only, letting the 1/3rd segments rotate separately looks ugly/weird.

no. not right now, they stay in the possition as they are now, but maybe it's an option to change that.. only a question about that, why should they withdraw inwards?

maybe during combat for protection? sticking way out like that they are easy targets, make the outer side thicker and more heavily plated, then retract in battle to protect the outriggers as well as the core there, could even model it where the three sections merge into one ring when retracted.
it looks as if they are retractable... and Falin described one reason fairly well... They do look rather exposed, and damage to one such section would quite possibly destabilize the whole ship. If the sections were to retract and form a whole circle, they would be more protected... especially if there were plates that could fold out from the sides and merge the sections into the continuity of the vessel. Such exposed sections are fairly fragile points in battle... They would easily obstruct defensive fire...

It's been sometime since I last posted anything. Have been really busy trying to get my life sorted. Check this out and tell me what you think. http://www.thelordofeternaldarkness.com/DV/EDV.jpg

MKF, can't wait to see this finished.
And turning it into a Ship Escort design,
primarily for use with this Carrier design (left) and maybe with this cruiser Design (Right)

Not me, i'm still as crappy as before
Yes they are
you beveled all those edges, of did you cheated through the MR rounded edge option ?
It's all in the model!
(like the "holes" on the sdie of the front wheel.)

In Game
It's a shame you covered those details with the body shell.
im currently working on this ship, a 515Meter cruiser.
i've also a little question.. when i start unwrapping this ship, my 3ds max causes heavy lag (0,165 FPS) what's wrong?

I have not been doing much lately on the 3d side of thing. But I did a low res test on a flame thower. you can see it here.
