I am going to continue to try and work on it and I was kinda thinking it was a little too tall as well, but I had not decided on how I wanted to fix that yet. I almost was going to say all of the com. array's and sensor stuff was hidden inside the tower, but that would just be to easy. I love it... you all don't miss a thing... even when I was thinking it! :thumb: Anyways thanks for the comments and I will try and do some updates this weekend! :D
as far as the tower goes the shape is spot on..just scale it down about 15% and i think it would look perfect..just my 2 cents..:)

Pearse, lookin good so far. I see some Beliskner in it for sure. Are the deck heights lower too, giving how small the ship would be? And one last thing, where are the bathrooms? They never show the bathrooms on ships! But then again, do the Asgard even need bathrooms? LOL!

Thanks. I had the Beliskner in mind when I designed it, just a smaller version. The Asgard didn't seem to have any small craft, so I thought I'd design one. I reckon the loo's in the aft compartment. The decks are just the right height for Asgard crew(there's one little guy in the cockpit), so if any humans wanted to come aboard they'd have to crawl. :p

the tower is looking too large for my tastes

Here are some updates I have been working on. One is the Diligent, a rapid transit/courrier ship inspired from the "Wing Commander" movie. The other is a missle cruiser called the Valkyrie with inspiration from thorthefifth's Hyperion. Hope you like. Tell me what you think. Remember, these were done completely in Bryce 5.5.

    Mmmmh... Interesting thread... I'm in!:shiner:
I'll work on a ship ASAP!
Even if I haven't seen SG1 (well, the last 5 seasons, damn Italian TV!) and SGA yet...

So I had a little time last night/this morning and I shrunk down the height of the tower a little bit. What do you guys think now? Should I go more or should I make it narrower?? Let me know and I will go from there. Thanks for your ideas and thoughts. :)

    Hi mate :)
    Here's my tupence worth
1, This need to be narrower because at the moment it looks the same width as the main hull and it looks odd i know the prometheus was a chunky flying brick of a ship but the deadalus is a bit more sleek and looking at your pics the ship is more deadalus then prometheus also ithink it needs to be about half the hight for the same reason.
2, they need to be about half the hight to fit in.

    A small corvette/carrier...

it looks interesting, though it could use some more greebles on the sides and I'm not sure, if a corvette class is capable of having fighter bays.
  • RamielRamiel336 Posts: 0Member
Well it's still a WIP, and I'm not sure about the class of this ship (hence the corvette/carrier definition)...
About the sides, they will be armoured (some huge panels, nothing more...)

Nice little ship you got there Ramiel. Definitely has some Daedalus and Prometheus heritage. The final result will be quite interesting. One question, what is a corvette? I know it's a type of ship, but where would it fall in the ship scale as far as weapons and size, etc?

a corvette is a ship class between heavy fighter and a destroyer.

between, ramiel, what kinda armament do you have in mind for this baby?

Hey Raffs.. Thanks for the comments and I see what you are talking about, but I meant it too be as big as the main hull as a tribute to the Prometheus. as for the height I can shrink that down more and will give that a try. Thanks again for the comments.

Well, I suppose this is a small carrier...:D
About the weapons I have no idea (like I've said I haven't see the latest episodes of SG1 or SGA, unfortunately, so if you have some suggestions...)

well, standards atm are rail guns and mk5 nuklear missles, i think. at least that's what the daedalus class is armed with.

You guys are really good. Well I am still a newbie ! I have to learn everything before I can build a ship like yours !

MK5's are the gate busters right? Seen in "beachhead"?

Sure thing! :thumb: ALL ships are welcome here. That's the whole purpose of this thread, to inspire and conspire. Errr, collaborate I meant to say. The ships that have been posted are GREAT, and have inspired me with new ideas. Hopefully it will do the same for you and others.

Your ship looks great by the way. Definitely shows the Daedalus bloodlines. Keep up the good work. And keep modeling!!

no, the gate busters are MK9s.

Doesn't the Daedalus carry MK8's as standard equipment? The MK9's are a "special" butt whooping bomb when a MK8 just doesn't cut it, right? Don't mind me, I just like large explosions. (Hense my steady diet of beans and cabbage.):runs:

no, actually, it's only MK4s, I've just read.

okay, so where in my crazy dilusional mind did I come up with the MK8's? I thought I heard MK8 used somewhere. I swear I'm not going insane.

    Yes you are.
    No, I'm not.

I just dont see earth's fleet evolving into the classic multi-class ship fleet (Battleships, cruisers, destroyers).

For one modern wet navies don't operate like that anymore, and two, the Air Force decides what it wants onboard each ship, and they will undoubtidly take non-traditional approach. Plus smaller ships will just not have the range of the larger ships, and hence a mothership type approach will probably be used. Basically a battleship carrying its own escorting small craft (be they bombers, fighters, shuttles/dropships etc)

Whatever classes that do come about will be oriented around missions, not size/how many guns. What the classes are called (Battlecruiser, frigate etc) is not really important.

I think the main warships will evolve similar to the Deadalus. She is fast, carries enough fighters for a proper air wing and carries missiles, nukes and jumpers. She kills whatever she can with beaming and nukes, unless they have shields, at which point they run away.

I think the beam nuking will be the primary weapon on all earth ships. The only advanced weaponry they need is to knock out shields, at which point the beam a nuke over strategy is played. So even if ships get big asgard energy weapons, they will still be used only to take out shields, not blow up ships. Nukes are just more efficient than a big assed energy weapon. No need for huge reactors for ship killing space guns of death. Just beam over a care package and there you have it. If she ship has shields, have your advanced weapons take out the shield generators, or possibly develop methods for the fighters to take them out, and then beam on over your checkmate box.

    Ship classes I can see:
Large first rate warships (lots of everything, long range)
Smaller pocket warships (short range, lots of firepower) for system defense and in-the galaxy missions
    Fighters
Human version of Jumpers and Gould shuttles for assaults (think MH-60)
Human cargo small craft (landable on the ships and surface think C-17, C-5ish)

Maybe some courier/recon ships for long range small foot print missions or such.

    Sorry I started to ramble.

or you could go with the american style carrier fleet (1 or 2 carriers and a number of support ships)

Awe shucks! Thanks. My models, even though they are done in Bryce, are slowly inching up in quality. Looking back at some of my first tries, I think to myself Dang those suck. Seriously! In the last five months they've progressed from being an embarrassment to respectable.

I've been thinking about some new designs lately. Not sure how different I want to go with it.

I wish we all could put together a little battle sequence, like the ones they have at Space Battles. I think it'd be cool to see something like that, and the workload could be divided up amongst several people. It's be cool, but I think most people don't really have the time for something like that. I helped some of my college friends put together a Star Wars light sabre battle once for a school project, and I tell you the end result was pretty damn good. Ah well. It was an idea, a lofty one, but a fun one. For now, I'll keep plugging away at learning 3d Max.

Here's some ideas just in case you've hit a brain fart; like I get those every other day.

a mobile repair ship with robot arms to repair damaged Tau' ri (Earth) ships.
a Tau'ri mass evacuation ship (in case the Ori can't be stopped)
a hypothetical design of a Furling ship.
an earth based competitor to the Goa'uld Al'Kesh design
an orbital station based on earth technologies

There, that should have your mind percolating at high sub-light speeds. pmpn Keep up the good work. Your ship is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see what textures will do. Hoooaaah!

Must admit i've thought about the last two surgestions in perticular the orbital station or in my case ship yard and also there someone running a thread for a redisigned puddle jumper and i thought the eary shots looked something like a backwards enginered earth version.
learn lightwave first especily if your thinking of doing anims.
oh and the avitar look good:)
