I like this version just as much as the first one, really nice details you've got there. The only crit I have is the texture on the dome structures, I think it works fine for the flat surfaces but just doesn't seem to flow with the domes. That aside though, this looks deadly, beautiful job!

little update - progressing nicely with new version star destroyer - i definately prefer this one - other than that annoying perspective things going on with the original and the orthographic view from directly on the nose - i think this looks pretty much the same ship

added some more big guns to this one though - descided that i dont want to classify it as a heavily shielded and big interdictor - while thats not changed its now packing more firepower and its a 5km long ship of destruction - scaled down the grav well projectors cause frackly they were already just about bigger than an entire interdictor anyway so will say this thing can only project a field maybe 1.5 times the size of a normal dictor now but since its gonna be chasing down the targets anyway they wont be far from it

the other rough ship in the scene is a carrier - obviously jsut concepting it at the moment will see where it goes

figuring 2 of them in the task group with one of these (gonna call it a Sagitta class Star Destroyer - battleship class) 4 anti star fighter frigates and 2 ISD type ships gonna class them as cruisers

    so
    1 battleship
    2 crusiers
    2 carrier
    4 frigates
    1 fleet auxillary

been thinking about the story i've been making these things for and cant descide if i should go for a yuuzhan vong invasion what if story - imagine if had happened and the emperor and the empire was still in power or if it should be imperial remnant story in some isolated backwater system there because the emperor knew about the vong and had stationed the fleet there to impeed any invasion and remnant never got around to recalling the fleet

ok shall stop waffling - 6 am and not slept

Interestingly enough, it looks quite similar to one of the Joe Johnston's earlier concept versions of the Executor for ESB :p

    Nice work as well ;)

Regarding your Sagitta Class, my cup of drool runneth over... I can't praise it highly enough.

little bit more - sorry taking so long - i do the easy bits first and then procrastinate the hell out of doing the bits i dont want to do

specially when i get the itch to make nice renders before i've finished

but consider this a test of a hyperspace =)

ok produced a basic hull shape for the 1.6km crusier class escort for my sagitta class battleship - is the same family of ship - wanted it to look similar - not sure if its to similar though - also went back to the carrier and its now based on the imperial escort carrier

Having the command decks hunched forward lends it a more sinister air.

yeah i like the look of the smaller escort ship
  • SeverusSeverus401 Posts: 254Member
I like the new ship, I think you should continue working on that carrier though, the Escort Carrier just screams west end games and all the horrors they brought to the franchise...

ok heres a close up of escort carrier - i personally like the look of this ship - looks functional

Well if you're going to model it like that, I suppose I can warm up to it... :)

Nice start. I don't have a lot of time for that design myself either, but that is easily the best looking version of it I have seen already. Will be nice to see what you end up with there.

ok the "cruiser" i did before that everyone seem to think was just a tantive v has been replaced with something that looks abit more galactic empire ish and perhaps wont be confused with a vessel barely 1/3 its size

i basically chopped the front off the original one and added a triangular front to it - think it looks more empire now - now the reason i put "cruiser" in quotes is because after some wikipediaing i'm reclassifying it as a destroyer

the little anti fighter ship is still a frigate - the big ship is still a battleship - the ISD sized ship is a cruiser - the carrier is the problem - traditionally a carrier is about the biggest ship in the fleet bigger than battleships (when they were in service) but these aren't, i would stick with escort carrier but that implies proper carriers exist which would mean at least a 5km carrier and i just dont see it - any star wars ship of that scale is going to be heavily armed itself, so i with the fact that nearly all large star wars capital ships are to some degree carriers anyway i've decided that the carrier role would be reduced and hence a "carrier" would not be the largest ship in the fleet

so ships are classified like this

Battleship - huge heavily armed and shielded - carries 6 squadrons of fighters

Cruiser - large heavily armed and shielded - carries 3 squadrons of fighters (not as per novels i know)

Carrier - large heavily shielded - light armourment - carries 10 squadrons of fighters/ bombers + 2 squadrons of long range assault craft

Destroyer - medium sized heavy armourment - medium to light shielding -fast and manueverable

Frigate - small, fast, anti star fighter armourment and light shields

That looks brilliant. A truely worthy addition to the Imperial Fleet.

ok starting to be very little of the original crusier left - but seems to be the way i work slowly replace bits with bits i prefer until a chop job ship becomes a new ship outright

anyway thought the engines didn't look like they quite belonged so changed them to make them more in keeping with the ship and my other imperial ship engines

the command tower was altered to make it appear more related to the bit behind it (missile launchers and storage - missiles big part of this ships armourment)

    anyway without further ado...

    Hope you like it

Nice! Liking the look of this, original and yet comfortingly familiar. Great work.

dont usually do this but i really like this ship and thought i would "try" (alot of try not much doing sadly in my case) to texture it - this the mesh is 95% there and certainly any changes at this point shouldn't affect at attempts at textures i do

anyway just plannar mapped so abit rough but aslong as you dont get to close i think it make its look better - still a bit to go though since afew bits cant be got nicely from above =(

    That's some really great greebling!

Loving the look of this as it progresses, nice texture work, really bringing the boilerplate action into play well there. Not really feeling the dark grey stripe as Imperial hardware tends to be quite minimal on the markings, though I suppose it depends on the era you're aiming for. In the transitional time between the beginning of the Empire and the Imperials we all know and love from the original trilogy there seems to be a toning down of the distinct markings of the Republic colours, going from dark red/burgundy to dark blue/grey and then to the plain utilitarian Imperial grey that we were first introduced to with Star Wars. So I guess your current markings could fit into that transitional period if that's your aim. If you're going for a more classic original trilogy look I'd lose the big grey stripe, but keep the smaller subtler ones on the topside behind the bridge and to the rear above the engines. But obviously that's only my personal opinion.

Great work, can't wait to see more.

    AWESOME!!!!!

I love the model, really cool design there. As for the textures, I like the markings but I'd lose the rivets. Still pretty cool all around!
  • StormcloudStormcloud2 Posts: 0Member
not had alot of time to work on it lately but little update - removed (well was a rush job on textures so didn't save them out correctly - so lets say minimised) the rivets on textures - added some more details on the ship - think its coming on nicely

if anyone has any ideas i'm looking for a name for this vessel class - i usually head straight to latin for ship names but cant think of something to translate or the few things i did think of sounded silly in latin so yeah ideas?
