Hey Vilandra! That new workstation is definetely paying off!
The city looks so much better. Congratulations. Great work
Actually, I havent received the new workstation yet. It should be coming in this week. Im still using my old desktop... which is being pushed to its limit.

I can imagine. I once tried to render SGA-3D's Atlantis at full HD on a Celeron M 430 (single core 1.6Ghz)! Just did it for fun, but it didn't like me and left. Permenantly.
Looks good work so far, will you be releasing yours public too? If so, we'll have a massive selection of Atlantis' to choose from! Thanks for going to all this hard work.
Heres the old center tower. Im going to reuse it, but add more detail, clean up the mesh (there are a few errors) and re-texture the whole thing. I'll post another update tonight if I can get enough of it completed.
The previous version was 2.3 million poly's. From a distance off, it looked great, but up close, you could tell it needed a lot of work if I was planning on doing any closeups, so ive been replacing towers and buildings with new ones that have more detail and are more suitable for closeups.
I dont know what the poly count is right now. Ive got the entire city broken up in about 10 different sections. My current desktop cannot handle the complete city.... but I should have my new workstation this coming Monday or Tuesday!
My new workstation arrived yesterday. What a huge improvement. Just to see what it would do, I rendered a short Atlantis animation using my old city (from a couple years ago). On my old desktop, it was going to take roughly 50 hours to render this short animation, however with my new machine, it only took 1 hour.
Keep in mind, this is my old city. Its not the one im working on now.
Video is 640x480 divx. I had to compress it, so you'll have to ignore the low quality.
here's a question that some of you may want to hit me for, but my only defense is that i honestly dont know and aren't a modeller myself - what makes the quadro better for doing 3d modelling than the geforce and vice-versa with games? always wondered that - i just had the idea "a graphics card is a graphics card, they're all the same cept some can do more than others hence 'faster' at doing the same thing as the older ones".
And yes, with the final thing, Slam in a PJ doing what shep did in "The Return" - dodging between buildings

Indeed. And Azwebs, Vilandra has said I think two thousand times that she won't release her mesh.
May I suggest you read the whole thread? ;-)
Just to clearify, im a "he". :D The name is rather confusing though....
how many poly has the old version?

I should be able to knock out a few Atlantis fly-throughs with it. :thumb:
Wish I could see it but I'm not able to.
