I'm liking alot of that new Viper Mk VII. When I was watching I thought it was just a goof with an inaccurate model at first. I like the angular underwing intakes a lot, they look good, as does the new nose. The LERXs are shorter and bulge outward. The tail looks shorter too.
Maybe this is what the Pegasus-produced Viper Mk VIIs look like.
the guns are also more akin to the physical set model-- close to mid point on the wings and mounted parallel to the wing's main spare rather than perpendicular.
The same goes for the dorsal wing-- it's shorter and much closer to the physical deck model.
I don't like the new nose though. It seems flat and too wide.
my verdict-- like the new rear (cockpit back) but like the older nose.
since there are no markings on it denoting a home battlestar, it stands to reason this is what the fleet-made MkVIIs look like.
i also don't like the new nose... but it does look acceptable with the rest of the changes... but i think it serves to make it look too flat when you're looking at the nose, especially since the intakes and rear of the fuselage around the cockpit are now angular, and flat on the top...
i do find i like the rear [canopy and back] alot more aswell... it makes it look even more agressive... and the under-wing intakes remind me alot of the F/A-18E/F Superhornets... which in this case is a good thing i guess
Another thing I noticed while watching the episode is that the canopy in the close-ups of the MkVII slopes down more sharply that it seems to in the 3D model. The slope looks like it starts forward of the pilot in the model, but almost immediately in the close-up, which I presume is a real mockup and not a CGI addition.
^Whoa. I completely didn't notice the new model. I don't think I'll be changing my drawing of it, though. I'll let you handle the mods, Talos. Personally, I like the new nose (the original reminded me of an anteater), but I don't like the modified LERX, even though it does remind me of when I was working on the Super Hornet. Any ideas as to why it was changed? To match the new physical model better, perhaps?
Could either be a RTF build or perhaps a newer MK VII B that Pegasus might of had a few of. Or it could be because the in house CGI likes to 'tweak' things, ie baseship, raptor weapons, magically adding an extra pair of guns on Pegasus :P
How do the FX people expect us to copy their work if the keep moving the target?!? Anyway, I did have an addition to the reasoning for the changes. Yes, we could say that this is one of the ones produced by the Pegasus, but why did they change them at all? One explanation could be their deck chief that Tyrol met once. He said that he was an actual engineer (from his comments, probably a propulsion specialist), and would have the skills to put in some improvements, without all the red tape he had to deal with before.
Also, I was thinking, do the pilots or deck crew have any nicknames for the various types of Vipers? Modern aircraft have their official names, but there's usually a long list of "alternate" names they use. I'd like to hear some suggestions!
As for a new livery, this one was inspired by my kids' recent viewing choices!
GAH! I was starting to go through withdrawal there! Especially since I actually have something to post.
This is the scheme that was in those reference pics, with the original Pegasus logo. Speaking of which, I can't remember where those pics came from! Can anyone remind me?
And I know nobody can read the nameplate, so here's what this one says: Maj T Peck - FACE MAN
Excellent job on the M VII, I lie it better in red than in the blue colors. Just one thing the original Pegasus logo was also placed on the wings in the same place as the seal of the Colonies on the "official" Mk VII. By the way, in answer to your question, I posted the orthos that I think that you are reffering to in this thread http://www.scifi-meshes.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17046 please correct me if I am wrong. Keep up the great work, I look forward to seeing more variations on the paint schemes. :thumb:

Yup, that's where I got it. Thanks for the reminder! Wonder where Black Sun got the pictures?
It's not only Black Sun, but Sci-High models too. They are currently working on a 1/72 scale model of the Mk VII (see the picture below). I am now convinced that the official orthos are available somewhere check out Sci-High's website Sci-High - Viper Mark VII model kit

what's a . . .LERX?

in 5 though it looks hideous (just my $.02)

the canopy is one of the things that are different between the CGI models and the physical set.

Oh, and thanks for the comments on my Mk VII!
Thanks BJ, hopefully I'll finish the top view tomorrow and then start on the side. The lastest update is posted in my thread.

I'd also love to see a skin with that paint job on the vipers in BTRL
Ask and ye shall receive! Well, sometimes.
(I'd like to see some skinning options in BTRL as well, but I'm not holding my breath!)

EDIT: I was looking at the Sci-High pics, look at the curve on the raised area on the bottom of the wings, never noticed that before.
