I'm blown away as always. I haven't got the patience to model anything with this much detail, certainly not for free. lol However, I'm always honored and grateful to those whom create, release/share such amazing content.
Worked on more greeble areas and nooks and crannies. Ever closer! For real..i can feel it. Spent a bit of time today moving areas around cuz I zoomed out for once and realized things were out of proportion. Think it's about as close as it's gonna get w/o me dying.
I've always found it odd that a lot of the Rodger Young's weaponry seems to only be able to pivot up and down. I wonder if they are supposed to be some sort of guided weapons? Then again, the faction that used them didn't seem to be experts in tactics to begin with, since the obvious tactic would have been to glass Klendathu from orbit. Did they really want to colonize that bug planet after the dust settled? It's not like they were planning to make peace with the bugs after kicking their exoskeletal butts, if the propo was any indication.
Finished up more greebles in the back that probably no one will notice when it flys by, there there were a lot of litle parts! Added most of the rest of the windows and did a flyby test. Very temp lighting and it's washing out a lot of detail...
More texture work...real thing is actually a green color scheme, they made 3 different colors for the different branches of military. Tricky color to get right.
After working a lot with the material and redoing it a few times... i did a light rig render test to see how it reacts. Tricky to get nice reflective panels w/o getting them to blow out. What do people think?
I've been meaning to ask - What are you using for engine exhausts on the Roger Young?
Thanks. It's actually pretty easy. Howie Day gave me a tip. It uses a push modifier to move the vertices in and out really fast about twice a frame so that the motion blur smooth out the mesh. The fiery bits are just gradient opacity with animated noise texture

Interesting. Never would have thought of that.
Me neithet....its pretty effective. I could fire sim it....but I wanted something I had to manage less, at least for now
Think the dropship is pretty much done, will tweak it a bit more I think, but pretty happy overall. And a fire test (which revealed a severe VRay 5/ Phoenix 4 bug )

The lighting in this one looks legit straight out of the movie. Great job.

Ha! Thanks man that means a lot. I definitely have tried to improve and try new things. It's definitely not easy!
"We're going in first wave! S'alright. Means more bugs for us to kill!"
Such great work on this
