I've been re-watching the show at night on Amazon Prime and decided to take a stab at modelling the Taelon Mothership. It's a challenge since the ship isn't symmetrical, they didn't show it often, and it looked different every time they did (especially in Season 1).

Here's the still from the show I based this render on:

Wow, you nailed it. Your moon and earth are better too. I've neve seen the show, is the ship solid or does it morph into alternate shapes?

Thanks! It doesn't change shape, but the look of it is completely different for Season 2. I might attempt that later.

Well that's ominous looking isn't it? Makes me think of the space amoeba in the original Star Trek.

Agreed. The underwater city from The Abyss is another project I'd like to tackle someday.

That I’d like to see—it and Atlantis are the only city-ships that made it to screen

Wow... you might be the first person to model anything from this show, lol.

I remember thinking this was a cool ship, especially the odd see-through version. Nice work!

Wow, this is a blast from the past - I made the original, way back in the 90s - they wanted it to look like a jellyfish :)

    Really?!?

What was that process like? I read somewhere the aliens were done in Maya, did you use that for the ship as well?

The transparent version was also really unique and detailed for 90s CGI. I'd love to hear more about it.

The ship was houdini (lots of procedural stuff in the guts), can't remember much about much else, I don't even know if maya was widely adopted at the time, might've been softimage or Alias for other stuff (work was split among multiple studios).
