Ok, I finally got my interiors into my ship, was fun to make. Had to tone the colors back a bit, it was quite colorful there in the beginning... but I think it's working good now. My eye just isn't used to "real" windows in spaceships and keeps wanting to blow them out and make them blue. For now they are just opacity mapped with a bump map to give it a bit more depth around the rim. Now to update my warp flyby with these new things... now that the interiors and warp test are done, I think I've accomplished about everything I wanted to! Hopefully next week I can do some more beauty renders and finish her up! Sure I'll find something to mess with... :-D

Now for something a bit different..seeing if I can get some good backgrounds for my ship....I've been wanting to mess with making nebulas for a while, I'm usually dissatisfied with using NASA imagery .So I pulled out Phoenix and have been trying some things. Could probably be a thread in itself! Pretty fun and easy to do once you get the settings down! Here's a few of them..

Those all look great. The bottom one is giving me Mutara Nebula vibes.

I hate myself for thinking.... could do with some lens flares... But she does look great... :s

I might have to have a look at Phoenix, looks like it would be perfect to make the leviathans sacred burial grounds from farscape..

    What is Phoenix?
  • japetusjapetus2957 SeattlePosts: 1,399Member
Phoenix is a fluid simulator built by the VRay guys. Can do smoke/fire and liquids.

I liked the nebula you used and the 3rd from the bottom the best.
    Nice nice shot. :+1:

That's an awesome picture, I love the nebula, colors and lighting. What's more, I think your ship looks great from most angles, which isn't always easy to pull off, so great work on this design.

Came across some old renders this morning...back from my Lightwave/Bryce days in 2001...my how far I've come! Even then I had a thing for the Excelsior I guess, but with a TNG vibe lol

Did you do the glowing planet with Lightwave?
  • japetusjapetus2957 SeattlePosts: 1,399Member
Probably...I think it was like a falloff in the opacity I assume...and I think the scene renderer had a lens flare effect too. I think the "nebula" was just a texture on a sphere. I definately did not do any sort of compositing back then, didn't know anything about it, haha!

That's a lot of phasers. It's fun sometimes looking back at stuff we did back in the day and realizing how far we've come since then.

I like that a lot. How about a TMP era Decker class from FASA, but with Excelsior nacelles?

There was? It looks fantastic to me. I know we see things in our own work that others don't, but I honestly didn't see any issues with it. And, animation is such a long and tedious process with hours (sometimes days) of rendering for a few second clip, so I'm sure nobody would blame you for not going back and fixing anything.
