japetus.....your work is good...but the models are lacking in realism. Send me a copy of your Rising Star...I'll fix it..send it back to you. That way you can study the lighting, material setups, and apply them to the rest of your builds.

  • Redemption scenario

    Looking good, DarkSapiens!

I'd suggest kicking either the camera or the TIEs onto an angle. The biggest compositional issue I can see is that the scene is very 'planar' at the moment. Granted, the X-Wings look dynamic, but the rest is very level, making the scene look less dynamic that it could.

Forgive my horrendous 1am 3 minute photoshop skills, but these horrifically convey what I mean. ;) Experiment with a bit more tilt and I think you'll nail it.

Some really impressive work! Love that latest Zerg. You've nailed the SC 2 look and feel there, IMO.

It's very cool to see the improvement in your technique over the years in this thread. Looking forward to more updates. :)

Sounds spectacular - a once in a lifetime trip, my friend. I'm very jealous :) Looking forward to seeing some updates when you're rested and back on deck. :)

Those pipes will show up ok with some different materials applied :) Base model is green, so I'd go for a dirty-goldish metallic colour, personally. This is looking nice, mate. :)

you model windows or texture them?

He lives! Good to see you around, man! :) You should swing by the SFM Discord and say hi some time.

Looking great, @Martocticvs. Those looks like an absolute nightmare to get right but she's looking sensational. B)

  • TIE Fighter tribute - Assault Gunboats returning home

Hi guys, after about a 12 month hiatus from anything 3d related, fractalsponge's ever growing Star Wars WIP thread and a replay of the outstanding and recently re-released TIE Fighter game inspired me to finally get around to using the fantastic Assault Gunboat model he kindly shared with me a number of years ago. How time flies!

This is my first 4k render and, on deciding to go for that resolution after setting the scene up originally for 1920x1080, it took quite a lot of reworking to stand up to that sort of res. Not the models, mind you - they're phenomenally detailed. It was more the planet, that is a mix of custom textures and procedural maps.
Rendering at that sort of res also requires some re-working of certain elements such as the planet that just don't hold up at that size.

That does indeed look fantastic. :)

Something does look a little 'off' though - i was trying to put a finger on it. If you look at reference material, you'll note that the 'panels' of detail are more vertically stretched and more packed more densely than you currently have. For example -

    But man, that's impressive work.

I redid the Bussard Collectors less transparent.

Definitely an improvement. Are you happy with them, now?

If you wanted to improve it further, I'd suggest darkening the glass - or making it more transparent, while maintaining the blurred refraction - and brightening the self illumination on internal detail a little
