Looking great so far! You've really nailed the aesthetic of that era of Trek, but also improving upon it. From one of my favourite episodes too, so I'm glad at the choice.

It's been a good while since I've posted anything animation related, it's just been something that's too time consuming with work, so I work on something when I feel motivated enough.

I've been scouting all over for a fan created model of this ship, and lo and behold, Chris Kuhn started working on it, and here it is. My 3D Max conversion of the model. it's amazing!

I really like the style you're going with here regarding the effects. Besides, I'm a simple man, I immediately like anything that happens with the Starfleet Academy music in the background.

My only question right now is, should I make the warp engines of the Excelsior light up like in DS9/Voyager, or stay true to the movies and keep them unlit?

Huh, turns out I was wrong, on the original models the nacelles don't even lit when at warp... Still, I'd personally go with lit at warp, it would make sense as that's when plasma is going though the warp coils.
Also, I felt something was a bit off but I couldn't realize what it was before, it's the lit RCS thrusters, they look like windows, and thus make the whole ship look smaller IMO. Are they lit just as an artistic license?

I'll wrestle with the lit/unlit warp nacelles...
No, the model comes with them lit. I can turn them off though.

So I've replaced the Excelsior with the Lakota... I doubt the Lakota was in service when the Enterprise A was in service, but suppose this is several decades after the decommission of the Enterprise A... Also, the last shot of the combined shot of the Bird of Prey dropping from warp, uncloaking and entering the asteroid field.

So, the first part of the jump is pretty much done in my eyes, maybe a few more tweaks... starting to work on the post-jump shot, then can easily render the merry-go-round shot from the beginning.
I'm also already reworking the model to look closer to what I see in ortho shots of the model, not under scenery lighting.

So, I was inspired to do something after hearing this music, so I included a little snippet of it (used with permission w/ credit). But here's a little something, now that I have Nightfever's Voyager model ready to go.

I really like the warp star effect I created... what do you think? Hit the halfway mark on this remastering.
