    Thank you, bosun.

    Added a few things.

    It's looking great. :)

    Thanks.

As I was sorting through some files just now, I realized I've posted around 107 ship designs here over the past three years.

And, in general they've been somewhere between "awesome" and "duuuuude!" :D

    Well said.

    Thank you. :)

I'm wondering where I found the time. I've still got about 10 - 15 old, old concepts to fool with, and about 20 or so newer ones.

I plan on revisiting this if the lighting tutorials I have lined up are worth anything. Most of the tutorials I've looked at will show an almost photoreal image and say "we did this with AutoCAD" and tell the commands they used, but don't really explain how to get those kinds of results.

This one came out great. I really like the design and the details are fantastic.

As for tutorials, yeah, some can be a pill. Some show you the basics but it's up to you to take the next steps. Lighting is probably one of the trickiest things to do in any 3D program.

Thanks. So far the tutorials I've found have been almost useful.

Worked on the bow. (There's a stray sphere hanging around in front of one of the cargo doors.)

Added an upper dock complex, and other stuff.

This one was an accident. I was lofting two shapes along a path, and it went farther than I expected. I like the shape, so I kept it.

One ring to rule them... ;)

Seriously, I like it so far. It's got a great flow to it.
  • rojrenrojren2304 Louisville, Kentucky USAPosts: 1,971Member
I might have gone with a name referencing the One Ring, but I already had one called Ash Nazg . And it does resemble a stylized ouroboros. I like the shape too. I would be rather proud of it - if I had been anything like what I intended to happen. :p

This one's difficult. This is the third or fifth try. I'm trying to avoid using straight lines.

    (Oh, the blue is temporary.)

My computer has informed me that I'm done with this. The geometry is confusing it.

I removed the blue, then added some of it back again.

Sometimes, the computer knows best. ;) I really like this one. It reminds me of a coiled snake. The stripes and belly "scales" are especially nice touches.

    Worked on the drive unit

Added a few things to the drive section, and started on the tanks for the front section. Not sure about them.

It's looking good so far. Are all of the tanks for the same thing, or different things? IE: fuel, water, oxygen, etc.
  • rojrenrojren2304 Louisville, Kentucky USAPosts: 1,971Member
The big tanks are fuel/reactant. The small ones on the neck... I'm leaning toward some sort of algae tanks for air/water/food recycling.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the explanation. :)

IF they are for different liquids/gasses... Time to color cod them? and place them on septet areas (The H2O Tanks are up at the front (Top) of the stack and the fule are the aft most)
  • rojrenrojren2304 Louisville, Kentucky USAPosts: 1,971Member
I usually just assume a ships tanks are either water ice or metallic hydrogen held as a Bose-Einstein Condensate. This one's toward the lower end of the technological spectrum so it's water ice.
