Over the years (and years and years) I've scribbled out various space ships that obviously would not have been built by the same cultures. So I made up a research division of a generic Federation-like government that gathers and studies derelict space craft.

I'll be dumping ships here as I get around to working on them.

The first is one that looks like a clump of salt crystals. It's a bit bland at the moment.

I like the rearrangement better than the original. Also, I like it with the added bits. They make it look less like a bunch of cubes mashed together and more like a ship. ;)

Well... the original was just a bunch of cubes mashed together. Just a basic pattern to build on.

Now, it's a bunch of cubes with things attached.

I think I'm through with this one, for a while. I'm moving on to something else. I'm learning a fair bit doing these things - although the main thing I'm learning is that 3D in AutoCAD is still annoyingly buggy.

It's a very unusual, very distinctive style you've got with your stuff. I like it a lot.
  • rojrenrojren976 Louisville, Kentucky USAPosts: 1,637Member
"Distinctive". I like that. Thank you.:)

Here's a start on the drive section of the generation ship.

Started on the body of the ship.

Added details to the ring. The outer part of the ring is mostly water-ice storage. I had thought of having the outer part of the ring being a large collapsible 'balloon' that would get smaller during the journey.

So, I added more stuff to the inner surface of the ring, decided I didn't like it, erased it and started over.

I like that one a lot. Great work so far. :thumb:

Started on the bow. Didn't get much done today - and I'll probably re-do it. I don't like the ridges. I also realized that there are details that can't be seen any longer.

Nice. I like the overall look of the craft, but the engine is very nice indeed.
  • rojrenrojren976 Louisville, Kentucky USAPosts: 1,637Member
Thank you. I had a bit of luck with the engine. Autodesk had recently added transparency to the layer settings in AutoCAD.

Removed the hidden details, and started reworking the bow.

Rebuilt the bow again. Somewhow the 'petals' got out of alignment. I need to change the nose more. I don't like the hockey puck at the very front.

I removed the hockey puck, and added a bit of color to some of the surfaces. I think I'm done for the time being.

    That's pretty cool. :)

Thanks. I was trying for a B5 'First Ones' kinda look, with a level of physics that make overconfident physicists mumble to themselves in dark corners.

Hmmn, at least I did manage to confuse the hell out of AutoCAD when I tried to put a radius on the openings of the spheres.

I've seen very little Babylon 5 and I don't remember much, so I'll take your word for it. ;)

Very nice--the 'hockey puck ship looks like the Palamino from the Black Hole--good job.

I love that movie. "Randy lay there like a slug. It was his only defense." , "He had yellow eyes, so help me God, yellow eyes!"

    I love quotable movies.
