Something to think about. Rapid prototyping looks to be coming a long way--and laser scanning parts would be easier than scanning a completed model. So if a model is made--say, add some giant tabes or something--you might scan parts of your model and reduce them down for Polar Lights perhaps?

Print resolution is the main issue. The higher the resolution (finer detail and/or smaller parts), the more it is going to cost to get them printed. It is certainly possible, but depending on the scale and detail of the model/s it may not be cost effective.

This is the coolest thing ever! I've never seen anyone build a model from scratch like this before. I walways marveled at how people would do this when I was a kid. Completely fascinating to watch this come together! Great work!

Hey REL777. Do you have the piece (greeble) for the Undiscovered Country model that is on top of the neck on the hull end? Someone called it a Grappler / cannon. It would be nice to have another angle on it.

Never mind. I think I've got it for the most part. Miss your posts dude! Such a beautiful project... We eagerly wait for more.

    Here's an update.

I cast some of the parts, then attached the pylons.

So glad you're back! Are you making another one? All the parts look redone. You blow my mind. What a craftsman you are! And wires for lighting. :argh: (Crazy excited)

Only one of those images worked. Mind fixing the other 404s?
  • biotechbiotech171 Posts: 0Member
That's weird, this morning they were all good.

last night one of them gave me a 404 but I refreshed and it was fixed, I'm guessing it's an intermittent server issue

    Looking simply sexiful Mr Bond!
I could imagine people lining up for one of these.

Awesome! I'll be keeping my eye on this. I'm working on the Kronos One right now, although some details like the engines seem to be pretty different. Hope you don't mind I'm using your photos as some reference for my model. Nice to have an unpainted one where I can see only detail for modeling.

Thanks. I don't mind if you use my photo's at all.

I added hull plating and some details to the bottom.

Totally Cool. Looking better and better!:thumb: So what did you mean by "casting." Have you set it up so that you can reproduce kits?
  • REL777REL7770 Posts: 0Member
I decided to cast the main body in fiberglass, the vac formed body wasn't working out too well so that's the reason for the lack of progress, but it's together now. Now goes the process of filling in seams, putty and sanding etc.

Wow, what a sight. How much bigger is it compared to your older version?

Any news on the D? :)
  • biotechbiotech171 Posts: 0Member
I never thought it was that big until I saw it in your wife(?)'s arms.
  • TralfazTralfaz412 Posts: 846Member
Looking pretty awesome! Unless your wife is 2 feet tall, that is one huge honkin' model!
  • japetusjapetus2957 SeattlePosts: 1,399Member
Whoa, I didn't realize it was so large either! So awesome to see it come together!
  • TALON_UKTALON_UK2 Posts: 0Member
Yeah, that is definitely coming on nicely. Is certainly going to have pride of place in the corner of someone's room once that is done.

Starting the work on the rear of the ship. I made a heavy duty rolling stand for mounting purposes, it's just sitting on the stand now, not bolted in so it's a little lopsided in the pics.
