Actually I don't drink any kind of soda anymore, they're merely a universal prop to show scale.

Comes with ages T_T the loss of such a wonderful drink. THHHHSSSSOOODAAAAAA
lol been having to cut off that supply myself. Though yours might be by choice lol.

    Question,
vac forming how much detail will retain in the final parts? I know in the RC side of things when making molds we had to keep things fairly simple due to the material thickness of the lexan, but this was with a positive mold could you possibly be making negative molds and pulling the material into the shapes?

Just being nosy about the process :D
Each day we draw closer to the end.

I wonder if you might do different choices for disruptor mounts. On fan produced blueprints, which I also like, you see tiny turrets I don't remember on the K'tinga. The old model kit of that has raised panels. In the blueprints the three cargo doors are rather large. I wonder if you might do cut outs to have different emplacements.

I vac form over positive molds, I account for the thickness of the styrene on the pulled parts. They're a little soft when they come out so I have to sand them to sharpen the edges, since I'm using 1/8" plastic it's thick enough to do that.

    Here's some updates.

Oh man, those are fantastic. You've got details on there that I didn't even know were on the original model. :D

When I comment in a "CGI vs physical models" debate, I'm always a supporter of CGI, but you, sir, single handedly made me doubt of my reasons for doing that, because this model is looking even better than any CGI model I've seen of this ship!

    Thanks everyone.

I'm working on the neck now.

First make cross sections out of plexiglass.
    ss_ktinga_60.jpg
Then fill them in and sculpt them to shape, in this case a combo of 15lb rigid foam and bondo.
    ss_ktinga_61.jpg

Then vac form styrene over them so I have something to detail. I did this twice because of the layered details.

After that I can cut the parts out and start detailing them.

It certainly is intriguing to watch the process by which you're fashioning the parts for this. I'd have to say most fascinating.

    ;)

Great work, really looking forward to seeing all these pieces come together.

Awesome. :D Did you etch in those details after it was vac-formed? Or do you have another method of adding those?

It's funny. That top pic looks like CG more than some CG clay renders you see these days.

Looking fantastic, as always. Thanks for taking the time to post updates. Looking forward to seeing this one continue to come together.

Loving how this is coming together, great work. Bringing back warm and fuzzy feelings remembering building the old Ertl kit (badly) as a wee lad. Absolutely loving the detail that has gone into this, and can't wait to see the end result.

    Looks amazing.

  • REL777REL7770 Posts: 0Member
I'm building it for a client.

I got some more work done on the ball.

Fantastic detailing. The lighting in these shots really brings that out nicely. Your client is a very lucky guy, this piece would have a place of pride in any home or office. What is that in the background of some of the above shots? Looks somewhat familiar, is that the body of an Imperial Probe Droid, or am I just imagining it?
