Here are some different types of pods and pylpns that could be used with BSG ships. Remember not every ship has to look like the galactica or pegasus, use oriinality I shown everything from a solid pod attachment (where spacecraft can be brought directly into the fuselage to 2, 3,4 6 pylon attachments). The landing bays shown are a three bay design with access to the top and bottom bays (middle level bay is used for spacecraft storage, spacecraft building, and repair. The top bay is entered from the front and the bottom bay is entered from the rear) to 2 level bays both accessible from front and rear. Also I have a ship by Farquard showing what looks like a way to easily convert from a 2 bay ship to a 4 bay or even a 5 bay ship.

i like quite a few of those desgins, i am trying to do a top view of Goliath but its not easy trying to get the drawings accurate to the side view. the flight pod design is ok but i wish to improve on it, so that it looks beefy like the rest of goliath.

I will also be doing a TOS/2003 version of galactica from scratch. which should be interesting.

bsg recon - thanks for those pics i would like to see more of this one in paticular

    How about trying Larsen's homepage?

    LarsenArts - Home

    might be useful ;)

    Kill,

Unfortunately, that design is from Larsen Arts and it has been inactive since Aug 2005 He has done other things Lately The Freya an interesting cargo ship.
His wife just had a baby several months ago and I've asked him several times when he will restart the Galactica project. However his website has like 50+ pics of the incomplete Galactica here is his web address -- LarsenArts - Home

I really wish he would restart it as my so when my software arrives I could try to draw it.

would you make a drawing of the pods and Pylons of your Battlestar? Not the ship just the pods and pylons

    thanks in advance

wow that ship is HOT! and i never use that term for a ship!

i mean wow it looks amazing. i hope he will continue work on her it would be such a waste not to complete her.

i would rather her than the galactica used in the new series. its in keeping with the original series design but making her more modern and more realistic looking.

hot off the press (sorry about the rough and odd lines ;) ). One thing you'll find with my designs is that there never finished. Not even in 3D, i just want to keep on changing/adding things.... BTW: some DC Starman fans might recognise the symbol on the landing bay ;)

tip3: Killface: Larsen will continue with his Big G when he's ready. Trust me, we've all tried to get him to get him to carry on  :p ;)

    Cheers all

sorry no updates today. Have been sick but still thinking about future topics.
these topics include space platforms (dockyards, defense platforms, ship construction facilities, anchorages both enclosed and non enclosed, Ragnor like stations, etc.), BSG military (transports, etc.) and support ships large mobile repair and recovery ships. Also have so great pics of Ragtag fleet ships. Freighters and other type civilian ships and finally kitbashing of TOS and TNS ships.

Python, three seat heavy attack fighter
    Viper, fleet fighter
    Asp, point intercepter
    Scorpion, vintage fleet fighter
    Stellar probe, scout

really like your Asp and Python, what is ship in front of python, HAS IT GOT A BSG TYPE NAME (if not maybe Mamba or Adder)? have you ever seen Eric Chu's abandoned pic of an fighter attack ship (like the Phantom fighter bomber) for 2003 Galactica? reminds me of your design? i call it the Anaconda.

Contrary to popular notions the battlestar of the 2003 designs, these designs evolved thru a series of Battlestar evolutions.
The first Battlestars came from competing designs of Scorpian and Caprican shipyards, the first Scorpian design was named "Atlantis" and the first Caprican Design was called the Atlantia.

    ATLANTIS1_1stGENcopy.jpg

    GEN1copy.jpg

    ATLANTIA_Battlestarcopy.jpg

After 2 years in testing a second generation of improved battlestars was produced, this time a 3rd shipyard, Olympian shipyards, from Tauron produced Battlestars. The Caprican yards produced the Battlestar Rycon, The Scorpion yards produced the Battlestar Arcta and Olympian Yards produced the Battlestar Solaria.

finally Colonial fleet command established their own Directorate of Shipbuilding with People transferred from all the shipyards that had produced experimental Battlestars. Vice Admiral Thor was placed over these people and told them that the colonies had decided to series produce the Battlestars. Their job was to produce the first true modern Battlestar, to be names Acropolis.

Thanks BSG, the Asp is a litle cutie I'm very happy with, and fairly high detail. The ship in front of the Python is based on a seventies toy made by Mattel, the "Stellar Probe". This was a modular ship, with a viper nose, a big tubular payload area and an engine section. You could mate the nose and engine to make a fighter craft. This was one of my favorite toys when I was a kid! The name is a bit lame, I would be very happy with Adder though. Here is a pic with my version of the payload pod in place. This would have two mini recon satellites per section and would lay them in front of the fleet to give early warning of attack.

I came across that Eric Chu Viper a few weeks ago, and it is in the program, just havn't had time to start it yet. Is this thread for colonial stuff only? I have some Cylon models that I can post pics of too. I also have a multi-role hopper / dropship that I intended for the BSG world.

    :) Smallworld

Anything in the BSG universe (canon or non Canon) is fine including cylon and their ships. Your Bopper series is fantastic and I would be proud to have you display it here. The Bopper series is exactly what we want here to show the BSG universe that there is more than the little that was seen on TV series. Your ships ( the ASP, that awesome Python and the Bopper (all versions both civilian and military) would be fantastic especially to indicate to the Role Playing people that many different type ships can exist in the BSG universe. Not all RP people are looking for earth but many have decided that there is other people and locations that can sustain life in the galaxy. This makes it seem more realistic, than hunting for a single planet that may not even be our earth.

A member of the colonial shipbuilding service an on detached duty as a member of the post battle Battlestar vessel survey team ( to determine whether to repair or scrap ships involved in the battle). The battlestars had been taken to a repair and recovery and salvage yard. He had been on a survey crew retrieving destroyed and badly damage battlestars when he realized that even on the destroyed ships often one and sometimes both launch pods had escaped destruction and were capable of being brought back to in serviceable condition in a fairly short period of time.

The young technician theorized that the launch pods would still be capable of handling vipers and other spacecraft. He contacted the owner of the salvage yard and laid out his proposal on reusing the launch pods. The owner of the salvage yard realizing the potential of this man's proposal, the owner hired him away from the Colonial Service, then he contacted all the other salvage yards and made sure that the launch pods were not scraped with the rest of the battlestars. He had purchased 9 launch pods and when he had completed this task. He went to Colonial Fleet HQ with a proposal. He proposed that the launch pods were to be rebuilt as spacecraft ferries and signed an agreement that all future destroyed battlestars were to be inspected by his company. Colonial Fleet HQ was amazed that no one had considered that idea before. For a fraction of the cost of a ship to handle ferrying of spacecraft, Fleet HQ had a new type of ship. The pylons had to be cut away initially the launch pods the area patched, required repairs to the launch bays in addition to the planned modifications, basically engines and a small bridge to conn the ship. The launch tubes were torn down and the area converted into storage of additional spacecraft.

The modifications took place in a old abandoned shipyard, which was modernized and renamed Aquatica Shipyards. The young man and the salvage yard owner were soon hard at work the number of pods had risen to 17 (obtained from the fleet from outdated and soon to be scrapped Battlestars). an engine shop was created to power the newcraft. Soon orders from other shipyards and Viper spacecraft manufacturers required expansion of Aquatica Shipyards. Not only were they converting old Battlestar pods, but pods from a of variety of Colonial ships. The pods were no longer being used only as space ferries, but were now being used as passenger ferries, cargo ferries and by a variety of other industries. As the owner of salvage yard retired, the young man who had brought this idea to him was now a full partner.

Attacks from pirates and Cylon raids convinced the owners that the yard needed to be moved to the asteroid belt. When the cylon surprise attack came thirty years later, the yard escaped unharmed. Using the 20 completed and 15 nearly completed ships they managed to rescue over 60 million residents from Aquaria. They remained hidden in the asteroid belt for several years while ships for the 60 million people were completed. The 2 senior government officials from Aquatica and 3 from the underwater cities together and 1 Retired Colonial government official and his small staff, together with the senior Military Officers formed a new council.

Meanwhile, they had been collecting remnants of the colonial fleet and and a number of civilian ships including 15 agro ships, 7 very large liners and 20 small ones, 2 refinery ships and 3 manufacturing ships, 1 refinery station and most importantly 25 tugs. The tugs were to be used in hauling Aquatica Shipyard with them. Additionally, The had collected fleet ships undergoing repairs and rebuilding at Tauron fleetyards including a large incomplete Commandstar (Triton) , 2 large Poseidon (Poseidon and Neptune) Battlestars (Mercury replacements being built at Aquaria), and 2 Marine troopships, other surviving military ships were guide into the asteroid belt included 3 pocket Battlestars and 15 escorts and 2 surviving ammo replacement ships and 1 Cadet fleet replacement ship with 6,000 replacements.

Now 4 years after the attack Aquaria's domed cities (both above and below water) basically were thought inhabitable by Cylons and this part of the colonies had been abandoned by them. The survivors were ready to depart.

    *COLONIAL INTELLIGENCE REPORT. TOP SECRET*

Unconfirmed battle reports from outer rim engagements seem to indicate the existance a new version Cylon raider. The new ship is similar in size and configuration, but more heavily armed with only two crew. This extra cockpit space seems to be occupied with extra targeting computers. The ship is more manuverable than standard due to longer control lever moments brought about by changing the wing area and shape. This "Combat Raider" is a new and serious threat...

Ive made significant updates on Goliath, ive changed her gun configuration.

the multi purpose turrets have been placed under the lip of the pod were the viper launch tubes are, ive placed them there so that the can give covering fire to the vipers as they launch.

the main guns i have nested into the pod insted of just placing them on the lip of the pod to give her a more streamline look.

i am debating wether i should keep the guns on her top side. and re plate the bow section .

tell me what you guys think.

    cheers

had received a number of comments about the pictures were nice but they wanted some sort of story about the ships. I don't intend to do it very often but if you don't like the story I suggest you just look at the pictures.
