2 things in blender that really make a basic model (no texture) stand out:
1) try using a sun lamp or a hemispherical lamp. THe alternative is a 3 light setup.
2) Turn on Ambient Occlusion (F8 takes you to the panel that controls that) which adds some depth to the shadows.
The plating looks like a good start. Folks keep telling me about 3 levels of detail, which means adding small bumps and panels in interesting places along the larger (nice irregular shapes by the way) panels.
CG Cookie has a nice tutorial on setting up a 3 light rig in blender. Look under blender and lighting.
I've comed back with something new.But don't tell me it looks like the LAAt,because it's not.I develope this as a rapid insertion and retrieval dropship for my groundbase.Opinions are welcomed.:cool::cool:
A few things:
A ) I like the building you have, it looks really good.
B ) I know you said the drop ship is not an LAATi, but it looks a lot like one, especially with the canopies, the wings, the position of the doors, and the turrets.
C )I think having the pilots sitting behind the notches on the sides would look better and give a reason to have those there.
D ) Please, switch the background to something less saturated, or better yet, something neutral. It hurts to look at right now. Look under the world settings in blender, and you might want to turn on AO while you're there (AO= ambient occlusion), this will help you see details better.
I know it seems like I am being really harsh, I just tend to be blunt.
If you need help I'll do my best to help out.
make the parts you want to be separate materials to actually be separate objects.
Select the part of the mesh you want to have a separate material. Press 'P' to make that part a separate object. Get out of edit mode. Select the new object and go to the materials panel. By the material name there is an 'X' on the select box. Press that X wth the mouse and it clears that material. Press the Add "material" button and select "ADD NEW" and then define your new material for that piece.
If you don't press the 'X' to unlink the original material from the new object any changes you make to that material affect every other object with that material.
Added the turrets, the missile tubes,an airlock. What do you think? Should I put grebble, and mainly what? I need tips regarding the end caps of the missile tubes.:cool:
Update time. What do you think guys. Not completed yet,but the ship is in the final stages of texturing.I need held regarding on how to make a nice wallpaper with good resolution of the render(1024-768).waiting for opinions.
as far as i can see you start a new Project, do some modelling stuff and say "it's finished" before any feedback is in.
those guns don't look that bad, but the basic shape is more a concept than finished - just my opinion.
Can't really tell how big this ship is, what universe or what purpose it serves (carrier, destroyer, transport ...)
There is no texture to talk about - what isn't bad if there is enough modelling-detail. That Window(s) and .. Door ? ... at the side look incomplete ... well ... most of the ship does.
No offense and you are getting better. But stay with one project for a while and get into details before making wallpapers and "it's complete".
Regarding to details maybe your are right, but i like a smooth body with no many details. It's intended to be in the Staragte universe, and as a type this ship is a small patrol ship with an intende crew of no more then 10 men with 6 passengers plus.
The turret is a concept,i like strange forms.Maybe I was inspired by Dr.Lee ships.
hmm, thats not what i ment. of course you can add a texture to everything. But in this case, you got one texture everywhere. Except the radar-spheres and those windows.
I consider that "no texture"
Try using different colors / textures for the areas (armor, no-armor)
Detailing is not about adding tubes, cubes and greebles everywhere. Even a big, empty hull-plane can be detailed. It just doesn't appear that flat anymore because of tiny panels, stripes. Dirt maybe or just different colors.
the Light looks ok. I think it's the materials which could be improved here.
I can't really see the Stargate-factor in this. Maybe because all of their ships had more or less the same front, this one is different.
It's update time.Regarding the naboo cruiser I won't make details because I don't find them useful,I'm going to make the texturing identical to the naboo cruiser.Any opinions are good.

- plating looks ancient(y), nice, but i would say it's decoration not armor
- the plating doesn't recognise the turrets / weapons. try working them in or the plating around them so they don't look that random-placed.
