Back to the battlebarge, as promised, here is some renderings of restyled windows on central deck & main body (in this part I've also started to add low-poly details on the first floor), bombardment cannons turrets and lance batteries on their sites always of first floor.
Oh, it just popped into me head it did... I'm currently gamesmastering a Dark Heresy 40K campaign and I've got the new Rogue Trader rulebook in pre-order from amazon since ages. I read that there is going to be a rule set in it to create your own space ships for the players to explore the Galaxy in. That book should at least have some decent info on the technical(game-mechanical- side of the vessels.
Come to think of it, the Battlefleet Gothic (boardgame) books should have should have some technical fluff too, no?
Might do. Might not. I may need to get a more... digital... copy...
Thank you Meph and yes, Armondikov, this is a first version of a simple templar cross (but I'm not satisfied yet).
Meantime I've started to work on the second floor frontal structure adding details and first CIWS turrets (positions are still temporary) and ... I give up the idea to use greeble plugin for details ... I'll model my own.
ive been reading the horus heresy books recently (nearing the end of galaxy in flames) - havent followed wh40k since i was a kid but suddenly had an interest so borrowed these books off a friend...so tragic....
but ur battlebarge brings to life in my head what some of the ships in the books were like heh.
Xanthra & Carach, really many thanks for the comments and Armondikov, don't worry, I have intention to work hard on this piece and ... you will have more guns
I think this ship is about the exact opposite of mine on the detailing, as mine is just chaotic greebling all over the place (as per the the Star Wars look), while this one is extremely well-ordered and structured (as any good ship of the Imperium should be).

I think it's because all the details are pretty much the definition of "simple but effective". I think this proves that you can achieve a great effective without going overboard. I'll have to try it some day!
Thanks for the comments Syklon & Armondikov .
It's time to test the assemblage of the battleship spine with head, central and bottom decks, main body, wing and rear rudder (you notice there are no weapons, wing pod, engines and other structures I'm currently detailing).
I'm pretty satisfied by the global look.

You just made my day!
and I've got a new background again : )
Really many thanks for the kind comments mates , I'm currently detailing the structures on third and fourth floor and thinking about the possibility to introduce a fourth weapon system on the frontal part of the battleship main body (after the two bombardment cannons turrets mounted on the central deck above macrocannons) strengthening the gothic characteristic of the structure itself (first pic on post #156) ... your suggestions will be appreciated.
bad ass! I cant wait to see this thing textured! Im not speaking from experience but I would assume this model would be easier to UV map than really greebled ones as most of its faces are flat? But what do I know, good work anyway!
I used to have fire warrior on the PS2 is this the same type of imperial ship that had those giant barges that just got fired at the ene,y ship for boarding or is this different?

Thank you Liam887 , regarding texturing I haven't decided yet; all depends by the final details amount on the hull.
I've recently seen a Fire Warrior for PS2 trailer on youtube with Imperial cruiser boarding Tau vessel ... I think this is the same for the "Eternal Crusader" battlebarge.
Here is an abstract from Battlefleet Gothic Black Templars House rules by Ray Bell: "The Eternal Crusader has undergone many refits and expansions, most notably additional launch bays for shuttles and Thunder Hawks, allowing it to achieve a relentless orbital invasion with its numberless landing and attack craft. Docking facilities for escort ships protrude from the ventral spine, hanging under the broadsides, to supply and repair its attendant squadron of Rapid Strike vessels. These docking facilities also have offensive capabilities in a boarding action making any such endeavour quick, bloody and certain"
Some detailing and restyling work on the main body frontal block ... now I think I'm ready to put all the central structures together to verify assemblage and global look ... I'll post a pic very soon.
Nice addition of battlecannons there. Also, as a small suggestion, why not take some time to make a small figure, a marine probably, and put it on for scale. Of course, you'll need to start zoomed in quite a way, and then make a series of rendered gradually stepping back. It would just be a little something to show that, in a world full of Star Wars vs Star Trek debates, it's the Emperor of Mankind that really has the biggest... erm... spaceship.
@ Meph: many many thanks mate ... for your greedy eyes
@ Armondikov: thanks for the comment mate and ... it could be a good idea.
Uhm ... Star Wars vs Star Trek ... maybe it would be opportune "not to touch this key" (italian idiom) here ... it could be dangerous
Meantime, I've take a little break from detailing work to do some turret animation. So here is a hidden line animation preview about CIWS turrets frontal block rapid fire test (some work to do on particle systems yet)

Perhaps "MORE GUNS".

Great work , ... love the pics from Post #165 .... very nice, keep going mate !! :thumb:

A little more restructuring and "low-cost" detailing work on the top structure.
