my blinn shader was too shiny:(, so decided to change it to a metal shader. at the beginning, the result wasn't satisfactory:(, but now i think it's close of the official render, a material less shiny.
when i did the aurora, i alo used the metal shader, but for some reason it wasn't so reflective like a blinn materials.
Do you noticed some other difference more than be a littl bit darker?

yes the metal shader is darker and the control on the specular color isn't available, i think the metal shader use the diffuse canal into the specular color canal, but i don't really know how it works.
Looks awesome, as it always did. I don't think you should worry that much about textures because BSG models used 1k maps for normal shots and anyway the shots are always so grainy and unstable, it's really hard to tell the details from maps ...
today i decided to change all of my shaders, and swaping mental ray for default scanline, the scene is lighted with 2 direct lights and one skylight, i add a lens effect glow, the result:
I still can't get over the awesomeness of this model :thumb:
However, I hope that I got it wrong and I understand that you are rendering in mental ray now, not the default scanline !
I must say the last render is just... well... if the model was finished I'd say the render is perfect, but since it isn't, I have the urge to say that I feel like something is missing...
;-)
no seriously, very very well done work, technically on about the same level as zoic's model.
Now all you gotta do is make her complete :-)
oh, almost forgot to ask: where did yo uget you avatar? I'd love to have it as a wallpaper... 0:-)
thank you! I obtain the glow effect on the material by settle my object id to 1 and i add a lens effect glow at a low lize and with a medium intensity on object id 1.
After seeing this model the praise that you gave me on mine really means a lot haha, your Battlestar is incredibly detailed, and that animation was great. Can't believe you took the time to even animate the barrels sliding back as it would fire. Extremely impressed, keep it coming!
I agree with the others, this looks like it's straight out of Zoic.

here is the link for my avatar:

and here a little drawing i've made last year:
Just a bump to let others know about the awesomeness of this model
little update: a close vue of a cannon
enjoy!
Today just a small video test for the lights of the cannons
the animation is very very bad, i just work on it 5 minutes.
may i ask how do you obtain that glow effect on the material?
Great job as always !

i've started and finished the modelisation of the lower part, and the reactors part.
I love this view:
I think it will be a real pleasure to animate it when it's done!
the polycount is 816000 poly
Sir, I bow to you, for you are my new god...
Those are awesome renders... that's all I can say...
