A little teaser of the first few seconds of the video as it stands so far...
I need to readjust the blue lighting cast on Voyager, as the shield effects were out of sync with the audio, the shield fx has been corrected, minus the interactive lighting. I've also added the torpedo fx and impact fx. The torpedoes were done by creating the torpedo fx inside AE, exporting light point data from 3ds max into AE along with the camera. Thus, I had 3D point data of the scene, the torpedoes were then turned into 3D objects, given the keyframe data of the lights, so they moved in 3D space, then I set their orientation to face the camera.
Similarly, the explosion fx (explosions and illuminated hull layers) were done the same way, except, the illuminated bits were set to auto orient along a path (which I can probably set to off now that I look at it), so they stayed at right angles against the hull and didn't constantly face the camera. The explosions were also attached to lights that moved with the ship object and translated into AE, the explosion elements were then made 3D layers and given the light position data, and finally set to face the camera.

Once I re-rendered the interactive light pass for the shield impacts, here is the full shot as it stands thus far. Only thing to really add is the phaser fire.

Awesome as usual Chris.. Lighting looks great... great to see real phasers on a starship after watching the pew pew phasers of discover and picard.... I'm not opening up that can of worms here... its just nice to see...
Thanks all! I'm slowly finishing this shot, I think a couple more explosions and some other fx and it's done... also been working on other shots as part of the whole project I'm doing.

After I figured out why you couldn't see any light bounces... now you can. Also, presenting the music track that Flower Productions is currently working on to replace the original, so that the video isn't just a silent movie of sorts. lol I owe them a great debt of gratitude. This shot was about 99% done at the time of this export.

@Chris2005 - if you are matching the look of the movies A++, but I found it jarring that the interior lights bloomed with a full bright sun out. (the lights are a buttload of orders of magnitude less bright than the sun) But then again, it seems humans have decided space=night, not realizing that that around earth's orbit of the sun, it should be *brighter* than the equator on the equinox.
But you do awesome work and probably know this already

Agreed, but I'm still tinkering with stuff. Thanks. Eh, my stuff is still a drop in the hat compared to other's. lol

Was about to mention the bloom too, if the windows are blooming then the sun would just wash everything out. I'd say the bloom is making it looking very 'cg'. Lose the bloom and it'll be spot on, it's great work, really lovely shot .
Using Nightfever's extraordinary Galaxy Class, I'm now beginning to get it ready for my next personal project, which some might know what it is already... It is intentionally brighter than I will have it in the end. Just trying to get the GI lighting to look pretty good as far light bounces go.

I'm slowly working on this... trying to think of shots to attempt to replicate for the video... it's 90% done.

Thanks.
Thank you. ^_^
Thank you. Yea, that tractor beam effect was hand animated using a corner pin effect in After Effects. lol
