  • Another Martin Bower ship. WIP :)

Had a request for this ship last year. Before Redfern mentioned it, I'd never heard of it.
I couldn't do it right away as refs for this ship are rare and mostly useless. Finally found
some good pics on a pair of Facebook pages, and here she be, almost done.

  • A rather long term project. :)

Been working on this, on and off, for quite awhile. It's the first monster ship I ever tried to build.
As you likely guessed, it's based on the Mercury class battlestar. In my Aurora 4x game, my empire
was finally able to build them, so this is a Terran Battlestar, hence the minor differences. The Imperium
is more advanced than the Colonies, so the weapons are slightly different. :)

Now, some advice from those who HAVE built monster ships like these, or the Star Destroyers of Star Wars fame.
How DO you color these massive ships? As you can see in the second pic, it took two UV maps just to map the
hammerhead armour plates. I really don't think textures will work with something so big. How do you color YOUR
    own ships?

The center section needs a few nurnies I missed before. Once I'm done those, I'll burn the texture for that
section, and that will be that. I'll post when I have her up for DL, sometime next week. She come with two
texture sets, her pre-production colours, and how she was repainted for 'War Games', as you see here. A third
texture for the command module has the black window embrasures in white, as it actually was, in the episode.
I hated the white embrasures, but am including the texture for those who liked it. :)

Top pic is my work area in Modo 5. :) The lower pic is my almost completed model. Only the weapon pods remain to be UVed and textured.

Hmmm. I'm trying to learn Blender myself. I should give his tutorial a try. :)
REALLY nice job on her BTW. :)

  • New bridge

The view screen looks much like the one on a Klingon bridge, as does the section below it.
This might be what gives the bridge a klingonish feel. Cool though. :)

Heh. I still have tS3.2 in it's original box, complete with printed manual! Those were the
days! :) tS3.2 was my first modeler, I upgraded to tS5, then 6, then 7. I have since moved
to Modo, though it's WAY out of date. I am learning Blender now. Do a search for:
"Blender for Artists". It's a fork of the Blender program that replaces Blender 'Hot Key'
dominated interface with a graphical interface similar to tS or Modo. It's MUCH easier to
learn. Check the vid on their Youtube channel on the differences between Blender and BFA.
It's still Blender underneath, with a more intuitive interface. Ah! Here it is:

    Check it out. :)

    It's UP. :)
Get the OBJ files here : https://www.deviantart.com/greywolf-starkiller/art/Mark-IX-Hawk-OBJ-Version-787196440

Import the five sections of the ship, and all 16 missiles. I made them separate so that users could fire them if they wanted.
The texture sets described above, and a set of AO maps for those who can do grime or dirt using them. Textures, alas, have
never been my strong point. :(

Sorry, forgot to comment on your awesome work. :)
    Which is...uh...awesome! <Grin>
I'll have to try some interiors, once I get Kraken done. ^_-
