@Starship It took me a few goes to get the look right for these. After lofting a spline, which I didn't like using, I found the saucer used segements that were just too big, giving nasty straight edges, to bevel etc, so I created a very high poly segement of the saucer surface (.75 degree arcs basically) then removed all the edges I didn't need. Once the high density mesh was done it was then just a case of extrude, bevel, loop and chamfer.
Ooh, looking good, though surely the name should be the small letters above the registry, not the other way around? If it's intentional, fair enough, it just looks a little bit peculiar compared to what I'm used to. I'd personally add some windows in the upper decks and some escape pods in the lower decks on the upper surface of the hull, it looks a little bit, uh, segregated. Otherwise, keeps getting better and better.
@Doomsponge - Registry corrected. The upper deck detail, as far as windows and lifeboats go, are done as there isn't enough deckspace otherwise - just doesn't fit (unless I did some labs which were over a deck high - an interesting possibility). There will be addition details (transporter emitters, point defenses, thingies and whatsits) before I do the final grid. Same will go for the lower saucer with the addition of cargo doors etc).
These pics show the additional deckspace in the sail area. the real challenge will be to fit in a shuttlebay and hanger, impulse engines (i think i know where they'll go already), at least one warp core and the primary weapon systems. Whilst I don't intend to go over the top with weapons I'll still need forward and aft torpedos and maybe even a phser lance (if I can get it looking right). So much to do......
like the little parking stalls for the shuttles. A bit nuts to model in a lot of that stuff but hey I cannot say much myself. It could make for some fun blow it ups though. and allow for battle damage scenes just yank off some hull bits bend up the frame and bingo! lol.
So I've taken the oppurtunity to modify the deck layout a bit. Second deck of the saucer has been moved down .5m, creating a much bigger deck. saucer deck 5 has been moved up .5m which will fix some problems i had with the airlocks. This is a bit of a cheat but much easier than modifying the base mesh again and then rebuilding all the detail. This eye wateringly horrible render demonstrates the two changes..... uss_tarragona_SR00041.jpg
So, decks adjusted and stairwells rebuilt so everything fits correctly. Currently rebuilding the turbolift trunking so that it works properly. Currently using a lift pod with a 3m diameter. Wondering if it's a little large (obviously internal diameter will be a touch smaller). uss_tarragona_SR00043.jpg
I'm wondering whether or not largerships would just have a few ramps rather than stairwells, which would permit larger items/cargo to be hauled or be hoverchair/handicapped friendly.
Of course, you really wonder if they even have stairwells. Anybody remember Disaster? Main power was offline and they were crawling all over the Enterprise in Jefferies tubes. :shiner:
imaging this set in a post Disaster timeline......:)
Actualy I see this ship being commissioned around 2370 with the NX hull undergoing deployment trials as early as 2374 (assuming post Dominion War but still with production capacity on a war footing). The class was not part of the fleet dispacthed to counter the Reman threat in 2379.

Just curious... How you did it? Just splines, extrude, bevel, insets and chamfer (a hard work), or by other way?
Note that these are 4K renders so not suitable for slow connections (or small screens.....)

@Aresius - just a placeholder at the moment.
Nice. Everything looks nice and smooth. :thumb:

This lead to working out where decks and turbolifts (blue) could go.

As for the turbolift, I'm thinking 3m is just about right.

Yeah, but, according to the blueprints, the Enterprise-D had stairwells. So, why didn't they use them?
