I remodeled the nacelle tube because the back of them were not accurate and the mesh was crap.
I wanted to make the fins a bit stronger but now I fear I exaggerated it. What do you think?
  • gerb200gerb200176 Posts: 114Member
Personally, I like them. This is a beautiful mesh, by the way. This seems to be one of those hard-to-nail ships but I think you've got it perfectly.

I like the thicker look... I made mine, similarly. :)

Looks good to me. However, your warp emission ball(?) looks like it is pointing down instead of straight back. Also, the bottom toward the aft of your nacelle looks a bit too rounded, though it is supposed to be rounded somewhat. Look at Al3d's model below. He nailed the shape perfectly. You're very close though.

Yeah, that damned emitter ball, I never liked it since TOS already. I have to reposition/resize it again.
I find that a more rounded lower edge on the aft fits better to the overall sinuous lines of the nacelle. So I tend to leave it this way.

Great Work !! It really came out well.

Here are some hires renders of the 99,5 % finished model (the rest has been fixed after rendering).
Though there are much things to enhance and to optimize I would say I'm finished with this project.
I will release the model soon.

That looks amazing! Can't wait to make some renders with her. Maybe this weekend!

this model looks quality, it's funny I don't remember any previous work from you because you obviously have skill, I guess I just missed it at the time
  • nightfevernightfever361 Posts: 585Member
@ Pixelmagic: I am looking forward to it.

@ IRML: Thanks, I appreciate your recognition. Especially yours, I ever looked up to you (which modeler don't...LOL). I'm modeling now for about 3 years, this is my first big project (next to other not shown wips), that came to completion.
  • madman1701amadman1701a339 Posts: 366Member
Awesome. :) I need to get busy and finish mine, I guess? :) Can't wait to download it.
  • nightfevernightfever361 Posts: 585Member
OBJ files have been uploaded to the Downloads section and are waiting for approval.
Textures and FBX archives will follow a little bit later.
    Have fun with it.

All that I have to say is THANK YOU for sharing this beauty with us.
    Excellent work!
  • PixelMagicPixelMagic471 Posts: 663Member
Yes, indeed, thank you. I'm still working on the Max conversion, but I've been absolutely buried in work work and school work.
  • nightfevernightfever361 Posts: 585Member
    You're welcome.
Btw. the FBX and texture archives are on this server now, too:
    FBX.rar
    TEXTURES.rar
  • madman1701amadman1701a339 Posts: 366Member
You don't have a direct link to the ship, do you? I guess it hasn't been approved yet, it's not in the download section. Or, if it is, I'm too dumb to find it. :)
  • DaveWhDaveWh342 Posts: 18Member
You're not the only dumb guy here. I too am anxious to find it and start playing! I tried the FBX version, but LW 9.6 refuses to load it, and the newer LW stuff I have just chokes and crashes on it. grr.
  • madman1701amadman1701a339 Posts: 366Member
Yeah, the FBX one crashes the Autodesk converter, too.
  • nightfevernightfever361 Posts: 585Member
The OBJ file in the Downloads isn't approved yet. :(
  • nightfevernightfever361 Posts: 585Member
Just tested it: all three fbx files were loading into LW modeler without any problem
I can't say why it isn't loading for you, I'm absolutly not familiar with LW.
  • DaveWhDaveWh342 Posts: 18Member
Amusing. Indeed, Modeler loaded them up "just fine" in as much as it didn't crash. However, something got lost in the works. One of the nacelles is gone, as are misc polygons here and there (or perhaps they've been flipped). Also, it looks like the texture mapping didn't survive either.

    Time to play...
  • nightfevernightfever361 Posts: 585Member
I only put one nacelle into the file for saving server disk space. I thought it'll be easy to clone it.
Too bad with the mapping. If you want to check the OBJ you'll get at the 3drabbithole board.

And nightfever is referring to this forum:

    http://www.3drabbithole.net/forums/index.php?

And it is a large file. Thanks very much for all your hard work nightfever and for sharing this model with us.

I did finally get the things converted, so I could look at the model. :) It's very nice a clean, for sure. :)

It imported in Max, but the geometry was a bit destroyed in some area's...

What format's can you export out from Cinema 4D?

Here are some images, of how it ended up imported in 3D Studio Max 9...

For the most part, excellent, no textures...

The saucer imported for the most part in original condition...

The nacelle imported just perfectly, again minus textures, I updated FBX for max 9 to the most latest version for max 9, let me try and re-import the other 2 objects.

    UPDATE:
After update, saucer imported perfectly, of course, the lights are washing out the model, still no textures, from what I can see, yet, but I can post the max model, if anyone wants to take a stab at retexturing it, it's in Max 9 format, of course, perhaps, KnightRider, he's good at this, lol.

Here is the completed model after imported into Max, no textures, etc. but the model is huge, like over 300MB.

    Anyone want to re-texture it?
