I usually work on a miserable underpowered computer, and mostly for 3d print, so I optimize as often as I can, so a whole ship usually doesn't crack 200,000 poly's Usually quite less. But some detail gets a bit elementary where a person like Mark, or Koi would spend 50,000 polies on a greeble..
But this one is a beast..
So, a bit of a break from Trek, Was trying to make a sabre class, and a refit voyager, but just kept spinning my wheels on ideas, so went to SW for a break, and found this ship interesting. Sadly theres like maybe 2 pictures, so alot of wiggle room, but I think I kept it true to Star Wars.
Wow.. 7 months? Need to visit more often.. sheesh.
Okay, today working on the Alaska Class. Been meaning to do this ship, had a couple of false starts, but after seeing Atolm do his 3 view, I got motivated.
Now, I'm mostly following the original orthos, but the side, top, front don't match up worth nuthin as many know. So used Atolm's 3 view as a basis to see better.
So my own "Version" of it. Mostly just feeling out the ship, adding what I think is cool, haven't really touched the front of the engineering hull, so kind of ignore that.
Put in my Ingram nacelles as a place holder, as the blueprints do have them as it. but will update them in the end.
I had a brain freeze on the Engineering hull of hte Alaska, so switched to another ship I was having a brain freeze on! Woo!
So since last time, some more detail works, window placements, added a small shuttle bay at the back of the saucer, maybe change that latter. we'll see.
Doing the engineering hull like the Enterprise E, most stuff is actually the E-E inspired,
I like the quad nacelles thin and almost touching.
I could see a larger design with the lower main secondary hull with a deep “chest” and a single shuttlebay connected to the lower nacelle pair…pylons rising up.
There would be a triangular tertiary hull…wedge shaped with a thin pylon connecting it to the saucer. It has its own bridge atop an All Good Things superphaser in its wedge front…and wide shuttlebay space to the rear. This has pylons that reach down to the upper nacelle pair.
Few more details, Major change was the pylons, changed the 45 degree straight pylons to curved Ent D ish pylons going into the nacelles.
I don't like the shuttle bay at the back of the saucer, I mean it has a tail bay, and a front of saucer bay, but I have no idea what to put in that area... Decisions decisions..
More latter!
Switched again, I swear, I see something while surfing the net.. gets me interested in some other ship.. In this case "Ships"
Started on the Best of Both Worlds graveyard fleet, Done the Cheyenne and the Challenger awhile back, a nebula is somewhere in the pipeline, eventually.
But today I'm working on the Springfield, the New Orleans, and the Niagara classes!
All are Works in progress, Started on the New Orleans, and drifted over to the Niagara and Springfield.
So, will continue with these for abit, till I'm tired I guess.. I'm so fickle lately..
More!
This time its the Springfield class for BoBw fleet.
Layed out the shield grid, widows, still some work to be done. I Honestly don't care for the bottom pod, and think it looks better without, but owell, still doing the bottom pod.
I like the Springifeld without the pod as well myself, you could always make it detachable
Also, that interesting pod you've got on the back of it, i assume you're going off spec? therpf forum had the actual kitbash pieces identified to put all those together.
Since this was a kitbash, and its naccelles were markers.. I think a bit of "artistic engineering correction" to make it correct to length and number of decks etc.
So to me, it needed a shuttle bay, torpedo launchers etc. what a ship "needs" Plus just having a hollow pod is just a waste of space.
Makes sense. Might is suggest that the rollerdoor in the top pod does not just have much space to roll up, maybe put a seam in the middle of it so the door opens vertically along the centre line?
Worked on this ... err... 10 years ago? Since then there are better references, so most of the saucer I redone, but the rest I left as is.
Looking at the references, the Eaglemoss version is a bit.. wrong. Refs were low quality, so i guess they made there best guess at what was going on. Better than the Completly wrong Starcrafts kit thats out..
So, without further ado.
Still have some details to make, rcs thrusters, cut in the windows, few odds and ends.
Just a couple of quick notes: Asking for people's models in their threads is against the Community Guidelines here. Not a massive faux pas, and you're new here, but I recommend you take a look at them here, when you get a chance.
The rule is not there because we're jerks or elitist or anything (I mean, I might be, but that's unrelated ), rather it's there let the artists on the site to work on and post their stuff in peace without having to worry about managing (sometimes constant) requests for their hard work. A lot of things end up released, some things don't, but it's always up to the artist and not something they should have to deal with just for posting their work here.
Also, hijacking someone's thread with other people's work can come across a little rude. We have a whole dedicated forum for making requests.
Something new, Atolm design inspired, a "Single" engine patrol ship, I'm thnking 2370 ish, Some voyager influences, mostly Tng elements.
So, Have a question, the Atolm design had the Warp engine on the bottom, but decided to see if it looks better elsewhere, on the upper, or on the traditional side. Now I could just be a variant of the same class,
Now to add an extra wiggle, the "single" engine is actually a Dual engine with a common bussard. So the side mounted is a 4 engine variant.. he he
So, just keeping on with this, and asking for input on what ya'll like in the engine mount!
Just a thought: It could a two engine version where the nacelles either open up before it jumps to warp, or when it exits warp they open up to cool down. (Would be a nice visual element).
Would look interesting , but i personally despise moving parts to go to warp. More parts, easier to break. If said moving part brakes.. no warp.. Thanks for the idea though!
So, Done building this, may color it latter.
put in the rest of the windows, water tighted it for printing.
So, something different next!
Something.. Different..
Was looking up stuff to make, and came aross stuff for the Final Frontier animated series that wasn't meant to be. Took a bit of interest in the enterprise concept.. So decided to have a go at the ship.
Its... uh.. going..
I'll tool around on this for abit to see if I come up with anything interesting
So more soon!.

some heres and theres, mainly figuring out lifeboats, phasers, and window placements.

A Federation Warbird.

Lifeboats, shield grids, shuttle bay done. Need to cut in the windows, and finish the neck and some details.
Thanks!
Put in the windows and other details like the torpedo launchers
Not much left, just to make it printable now!
Thanks!

Current Projects:
Ambassador Class

Ambassador Class
Actually, there is a whole deck worth of space above the doors, so plenty of space. if it was a "Roller Type"
Though it does need.. something..
So getting close to done, few thing here and there. but almost there.
Today is the Steamrunner!

Deleted coz its rude, apparently

Went with the under slung nacelle, and the 2 side variant. Not much difference, some of the Armour panels.
Went an Enterprise E type of paneling instead of the shield grid varinet, I think it looks good.
Not much left, just cut in the windows, some detailing then I'm done!
