Crix Dorius and Annihilator: Yep! Those are the ones...and they're actually from a project even older than that - these guys have been banging around in my head for a while. Here's the link to the latest version of that alien animation, not even close to finished, and I don't know if I ever will... http://www.hedfiles.net/Comp60.mov -38MB Mov...
Anbd here's the latest on the cockpit...with layers! So this has 3 layers; the cockpit itself, a layer of bubbles and plankton, and blurry unfocused plankton. These will all move independently as you steer to give you the feeling of being in a dense liquid container.
Enjoy, and I'd love to hear any thoughts you guys have!
Maybe a little bit too much bubbles and plankton... but so far very good.
Would be nice to see if the bubbles would interact with the interior. If that is possible.
Will the small bug fighter and the big battleships from the animation be in the game too?
Yeah, the bubbles and plankton are set up in such a way so that we can change how obnoxious they are... And the small fighter already is!
Also, while I'm posting... I found this last night. It's a paint your own Nebula tool that's extremely awesome. http://29a.ch/sandbox/2011/neonflames/
Some of those will be ending up in this game, I'm certain of it.

Good to know. ^^
And for the Nebula tool... thanks. That can be very helpful.

Beautiful, I think this cockpit looks great, and think the bubbles and particulate matter are fine, if this is some life supporting soup for the alien pilot it should be pretty dense.
Oh, and very cool animation snippet there too, very nice.
Cris Dorius: Yeah, I hope it comes in handy.....
Coolhand:Thanks, man. If it means anything, I miss seeing all your artwork constantly flooding the forum.... Thought I definitely want the El Diablo to be my next into town car....and now that I look, I think I've missed some posts of yours! Off to enjoy. :P
TALON_UK: Thanks... I am going to thin up the liquid towards the edges of the screen a bit... It's a pretty narrow angle right now, as Dr. Jones called out.
In the meantime, I've started working on the Diamondback - a specialty Proxima fighter. I have a quick turnaround of the model in its original form...
Looks excellent I do like the pulse engine effect as well. Will you eventually be able to change weapons on ships? I am asking this since it looks like you have weapons modules for your ships
Thanks, Roadwarrior.
Crix Dorious: That animated gif is from an older game i was working on, somewhat more of an asteroid-style shooter. Here's a couple of more Gifs from that old project...
Flanker: Thanks! The weapons modules on that ship are from an older game. In-game weapons loadouts will not be alterable.
Knight26: Thanks - the funny thing is, up until about 8 months ago, I have no idea who Foss was.
Talon_UK: Yes, that's the part I'm looking forward to as well...
More coming!
These are great, loving the one firing it's blasters, very cool and retro looking.
With your first shot of the new ship, first thing that springs to mind is where is all that lovely colour? But it is early days yet and I'm guessing it is coming. Currently the shape doesn't look quite as interesting too, so maybe some of the details need to become more pronounced to help it keep it's unique feel? The raised sections either side of the cockpit were a nice detail, so maybe make more of them, and I think the fins on the wings and rear of the ship need to be enlarged and perhaps made a little more interesting, at the moment they don't stand out too much, but this might just be because of the angle of the shot. Also, just because you're making a higher detailed model, don't be afraid of keeping that blocky aesthetic, it is part of what made the original look cool, it doesn't have to be streamlined and curvy just because you have more polys to play with.
Really looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
Looking good, definitely like where this is going, the cockpit details are looking nice, and the ship as a whole looks much more balanced with the larger fins. With the buldges either side of the cockpit perhaps you could do with adding vents to the rear of them like in your original to make the detail stand out more? Other than that I'm just gonna sit back and see where you take this.
I'd love to see those ships above all translated to high poly, but keeping their blocky aesthetic intact, just with the additional geometry used to add detailing and perhaps chamfers on the harsher edges to enhance the realism. I reckon they'd all look great.
Oh, and I thought this blog might be of interest to you. Someone on the SFX website complaining about how dull and grey alien spacecraft designs seem to have become in movies lately. Seems surprisingly apt for this thread. Was tempted to post some of your work there to show them all is not lost.
Thanks again, TALON_UK. And yes, that site definitely amuses me - it's a trend I'd noticed myself. It's a damn shame, all these alien blockbusters end up looking like meaningless greeble farms. If you wanted to post some of my stuff up there, you're welcome to. I don't mind. :P
Looking good, really loving the paint scheme flowing from the cockpit backwards, really suits the design. What are those new details at the rear of those bulges supposed to be, some sort of engineering access hatches to get at the rear of the weapon systems or something? Works well whatever it is. Coming on nicely.
Thanks, TALON_UK! The panels behind the guns are actually the power cells for the fusion lasers. They're externally accessible for ease of replacement. This is a testbed spaceframe, so all the gooey bits are designed to be hot-swappable.
Anyhow, here's the latest.
A lot more of the details have been filled in, and I've got a better handle on what the areas between the main body and the wings should be. All together, I'm really happy with how this one is looking. Any thoughts?
Nice paint job, particularly like how the rear orange band creeps onto the leading edge of those wing fins, a cool touch. The vessel also has a really interesting silhouette from most angles, which is always a plus.
hanks guys - here's the progress so far. There's still some greebles to the back of the cockpit that need to be refined, and the bottom fin and the bottom rear hull still need detailing, but other than that... this one is moving along nicely!
Road Warrior, TALON_UK: Thanks, guys!
Annihilator: Well... there are two main landing gear legs, but there are three total. And I think I'm going to leave off the noseart on this one - it's got enough going on.
Actually, it's done!

The new cockpit looks spot on, great work!

And for those of you who can view it, the APNG 24bit version..

Pulse thrusters... interesting.
I never was a fan of spacecrafts total covered in bright colors.
But the design is solid. :thumb:

Here's an update on the Diamondback...
Got the nose detailed out, now moving onto the gun enclosures and the rear of the cockpit. Any thoughts?

Landing gear consists of two bird Legs?
This one reminds me of a cartoony Vulture
so if you thinking about i special "nose art" again
