I figured to prevent spam, I'll post all my work here. To start off, I have a Homeworld-based model of a Bentusi ship in progress.
Bentusi001.jpg
Bentusi002.jpg
I'm trying to keep true to what an ancient race of cybernetic merchants would look like, and this is what i have so far. Plus this ship is armed with 7 rapid-fire Ion cannons. (3 of them will be mirrored over)

Comments? Awesome or crap?

EDIT: 8,041 polygons, 9,400 verts before the mirror

OH I'm looking forward to this. I've loved that ship. :)

Personally one of my favorite of the homeworld series :)

Is this the Harbour ship, or your own design?
  • Lord OvermindLord Overmind0 Posts: 5Member
Kalic-Vadek: I am basically trying to recreate the HW1 Bentusi harbor ship with a mix of designs. This one is a cross between the Bentus from Homeworld 2 and the harbor ship seen in Homeworld 1. I am also implementing my own details into the ship.

Everyone else: It's one of my favorite ships too!

I've added more trench detail, and I have but a little bit more to go.
    Bentusi003.jpg
P.S.: The mirror is just to show the uniform shape. 16k polygons and 20k verts untriangulated.

Are you gonna Mirror it, then add Variation to the Mirrored parts?

(So they don't all look the same.)

Edit: just saw your P.S., Ignore my post.

Decided to re-work the entire greeble trenchline, and decided to work off of a greeble library (As I should've done before) and here is the result. Also, I decided to narrow it down back to 3 Ion batteries.
    Bentusi004.jpg
Currently the very front of the ship. Took weeks of procrastonation to make the greebles, and a few hours to plant them into the ship. (with procrastonation of course. :D)

Hehe, procrastination... The friend and mentor of every student. ;)

    Nice work here.

This'll be gorgeous when it done based on how it's shaping up. BTW, I do fear your greebles. :p The trench looks great! :thumb:

Procrastonated on the plating and got some material work done:
    Bentusi009c.jpg
I used a turbulent noise map for the materials.

Sweet work there, I love it. I just wonder, tho. I remember the Bentusi vessel glowing like mad. You don't go for that?
  • Lord OvermindLord Overmind0 Posts: 5Member
The bentusi vessels only glow on the inner side of the harbor shape, and I haven't gotten to that part yet. Also, the curved end is always the front.Bentusi.jpg

I like where this is going :) Keep it up! :)

Detail looks good. The glowing looks like it'll be purdy when it's done.

    Ah, okay.

Wait, I though you're going for that one, now I wonder why it's more shaped like shaped a U, when the one in the image there has the circle more pronounced...
  • Lord OvermindLord Overmind0 Posts: 5Member
My ship is a mix between the Bentus (thanks for the image) and the Bentusi Trade station seen in Homeworld and Cataclysm (thanks to me for supplying the image). The U-shape is utilized from the HW1 ship, whereas the sloped hull was derived from HW2.

Very nice, I also liked this ship a lot in the games. Great greebly goodness! Better you than me!

I recognized the Bentusi design from the thumbnail and was all "holly c**p i have to see this!!!"
It looks absolutely great :) And 100% Bentusi!
I'm eager to see more of it. Some Homeworld is always good to see in these Star Trek-ish days.

Agreed. WAY too much star trek and not enough Star Wars, Battlestar, Stargate, Halo, and Especially Homeworld.

    Let there be light!
    Bentusi01.jpg
Attenuated omni lights multiplied to blinding levels with mental ray shadow maps to boot.

Looks fantastic. Agreed about the desire to see more variety in subjects. There's still lots of great ships that haven't been touched or could use a re-visit.

I figure I should post an ortho view, and seeing that the front side looks complete...
    Bentusi011.jpg
Yes, that's the front. NO, it isn't a saucer for those who stumbled onto this thread.

    EDIT: 200k polys!
  • ArmondikovArmondikov0 Posts: 0Member
Shame, as that would be kind of cool as a saucer.
