This has shaped up really nicely. Usually when someone makes an Excelsior hull compact it loses much more than it gains. But I can really see this one. You've taken her way beyond the source material, that's for sure. Clean modeling, great details, can't wait to see her finished up.

Interesting ship. Seems to be to the Ingram / Excelsior as the Nebula is to the Galaxy. Loving your work on it and can hardly wait for more! :)

After that, though, any plans on kitbashing your Oberth? There are several fan-made orthos of kitbashes out there, such as the Asmodeus / Jester, the Clarke, the Fisher or the Angueira. Would be nice to see an entire fleet of Oberth-derivates.
  • VALKYRIE013VALKYRIE013547 Posts: 1,473Member
    Thanks!

yeah, some compacted designs leave alot to be desired.. though the nebula pulls it off great, and thats why i liked this plan becasue it gave the excellsior a complacted design without loosing its elegance :)

Oberth? no current plans, still on this one, but i do know of all the derivatives.. so it is a posibility latter on, maybe this thing in dock and the oberth cargo delevering parts, or some torpedo boats as escorts.. all sort of possibilities!!

    Thanks again!

    thanks guys!

    okay, More Renders!

okay, done the saucer grid, top and bottom, had to rebuild it a couple of times becasue the old one i stole from my excelsior build was wrong... as in i need a multipule of 24 to get the grid equall.. i had 22, so one grid would have been smaller 6 polys in between instead of 7 of the rest... he he.. can't have that (even though you wouldn't notice it!!)

    so all good!
no renders this weekend.. not becasue i'm not working.. its that my home computer is Already at the point of not being able to render it at all! so sad.. and yes i'm saving up for another one!

    so Pictures!!

It looks fine without a weapons/AWACs pod,but have you thought about a small one? I really like this designs stacked shuttlebasy concept, and how the lower clamshell is inverted, with the widest point above and not below.
  • VALKYRIE013VALKYRIE013547 Posts: 1,473Member
I'll look in to an AWACS/ weapons pod for this thing.. where to put the support pylon!! :)

1 more for the road.. installed the sensor ring for the saucer section, and the cargo ramp doors for the saucer as well...

work on it more this weekend.. :)
  • StarshipStarship466 São Paulo - BrasilPosts: 1,977Member
Fine, except cause the saucerA’s doors. Looks to much like a common door that you can see in buildings like hospitals, and you put them in a unconventional place: between the manouvering thrusters. :) Why not to replace that with the common bays from Ent-A? It isnA’t cleary visible in this rendering from RyiutaroA’s Ent-A, baut I believe it will give you the idea. ;)

    hi Starship! Thanks!

yeah, thought it was a window there.. i'll recolor it to a panel.. :)

and this is a mash up of excelsior and ingram and Ent B so the hatch between the rcs is on the ingram and is according to the plans, so i went with it, the Excelsior doesn't have one and the side rcs is not at 90 degrees, its slightly tilted back, so if there is a cargo hatch, its not inbetween the rcs.. owell :)

based it of Jayru's hatch, which is the ingram, and pretty close to the plans :)

so some work on her this weekend, not to much, made a new top hanger, and doors, put in some airlocks on the back of the shuttlebay. some details on top

put some struts and lights and stuff in the lower bay to make it filled out more..

so not to much, some more work latter

    Thanks!

okay, stayed over at work abit to finish up the eng section shield grid...

must be in it for the pain, decided to use the excelsior grid pateren instead of the plans patteren, which was just a few rectangle grid pieces.. but the excelsior one.. is well.. More Complex!!!!! owell.. looks fantastic!! if i do say so myself!

crashed on me in the middle, just after i selected All the Lines To Extrude!!!! darn it.. not to long..

nothing more tonight.. my hand is numb from work and this.. so more tomorow!

    Looks good!
Is just a light effect, or you have a small mesh deformation between the deflector and the neck, at the side of the sec hull?
Can I suggest you to use the Lakota color schema when painting her, and to add the details you can see in the Ent-BA’s belly? :D
  • VALKYRIE013VALKYRIE013547 Posts: 1,473Member
well the refelection is what your seeing, the spec map is all wonky with it being not uv'd properly yet.. so alls good!

yeah, the blueish belly is one of the next things to do! but as said, mash between excelsior, ingram, and Ent B (lakota) but mainly taking color sheme from Ent b... :)

    Thanks Starship!

    well, some more stuff!!

added the blue on the bottom and rebuilt the deflector and tunnel..

still working on the texture for the deflector.... still doesn't look right

so thats about it, more work on it tonight!

    Thanks!

Looks good to me. Maybe you must do the lines coming from the center of deflectorA’s circle a bit more dark. Just it.

Pretty cool ship you got going there.

It's looking really good so far ! :thumb: I think the lines around the secondary hull are a bit too cluttered but overall it feels like a really good design and model. Keep it up !

well, redone the eng hull, and re grided it... was to light in polys and had segmentation problems.. ( yes i'm channeling Koi here.. you couldn't see it, but IT WAS THERE!)

so kinda the same images, but Better!!

    Thanks guys!

Very nice! Love the subtle panel lines :)
  • VALKYRIE013VALKYRIE013547 Posts: 1,473Member
well, added the windows.. AND figured out a way to insert the windows at more than 1 at a time! (YAY!) so i can put in... 10,20 windows at a go.. real time saver! ( selecting all the cylinders then combining them in to 1 mesh, then boolean them in the hull.. command for Maya is Combine after selecting all the windows for that section.. might help ya)

so other than that, not much, next is saucer windows!!

    Pictures!

    you couldn't see it
    Actually...:p

I do see improvement in the new hull.
The torp launcher detail looks great too!

By the way, what does the ship do with all the shuttle bays??

i have an idea, that I just thought of today (5 min ago actually!) for the shuttle bays.. the top one is the regular bay, with galelio class shuttles, work bees and cargo bay. the middle bay is a strict cargo bay, cargobay 2 , the lower bay is for long range shuttles (2)

idea if for the Oppenhiemer to go out aways, chart new systems, etc. using the 2 long range shuttles to go to other systems in route. basically increasing the number of systems explored and charted.

the TMP shuttles will be equiped with long range warp nacelles.. :)

    ^ Oooo. Warp sleds? :D

I like it. Reminds me a bit to one of the DS9 kitbashes (Curry-class or what's her name...).
