Import & Export in 3ds Max

Hi, I need some help regarding exporting an object and importing it into another scene. When I do this I get the object imported a "editable mesh" when I instead want it as a "editable poly". How do I prevent it from coming as an "editable mesh" when I import it?

If it is between max scenes, you do not export and import, but merge, or use Xref object

export things only when you need to pass your objects to other softwares.
exporting objects always makes mesh things. and try to always keep 4sided polygons.

to stay within max, use the merge or xref.

Imported stuff always ends up as an editable mesh, if it's not from another max scene (in which case you wouldn't be importing it to begin with). No way around it as far as I know, but you can convert it to an editable poly. Either right click on the object or its modifier stack and select convert to editable poly.
Comco: i entered it manually in the back end

As the others have stated, if it is all 3ds max, then use the merge feature instead of export/import.
