Thanks Legolas, I should get some more work on the F-14s today and when I can find more resources on the Tumbler, particularly a top view, I'll get more work done on that vehicle as well.

would love to comment but work has denied us access to photobucket and imageshack, dang it.

It's finally ready to show, the EF-14G multirole craft, capable of jobs from inflight refueling to electronic warfare escort, to AWACS. The wing is inspired by the VF-0D's, but only the endplates are really from it, the rest of the wing in the side view is a heavily modded EF Typhoon wing. This is actually version two of the wing, the first utilized the mounting points of the regular wing with a dogtooth a bit out, leading into the wider chord delta. It was clunky and I wasn't satisfied with it, so I moved the start of the wider chord closer to the fuselage and curved the wing so it isn't too high in the rear. The Sidewinder rails will likely be removed, the plane usually carries a pair of AMRAAMs on the wingtip rails, along with ECM pods under the wings. A pair of FAST packs or CFTs can now be carried on the rear engine nacelles since the horizontal tail isn't there anymore.

Here it is uploaded for you Knight, and the one from the previous post.

I'm working on painting the EF in the markings of VAQ-136, the EA-6B squadron forward-based in NAS Atsugi, Japan. It's still a work in progress, including names, more signage, the unit insignia, and changing all the signage to low-vis, except the nose number.

I finally got around to updating the HSRSV a bit. It's now a hybrid design, with electric motors powering the front wheels and the desiel engine powering the two rear ones. As a tradeoff, the seat behind the driver is removed to make room for a battery. I'm still working on blocking out the shape, the side is going to be changed as soon as I get a chance. I'm also thinking of replacing the windows with flat HUMMWV-style ones.

Work continues on the HSRSV. The second picture details the armored roof and windshield. The components, including the armored doors, can be removed and replaced with either light-weight plastic, or classic canvas doors and roof panels. The windshield is replaced then with a flat, folding, HMMWV-style one. These are replaced to reduce weight and increase economy performance in garrison and CONUS operations. The cargo area roof and sides can be removed as well, I forgot to color them in. The individual pieces can be removed seperately, allowing multiple configurations of the armor. The final picture shows the basic layout of the interior components.

    Orange: Engine, generator, batteries
Yellow: fuel tank, mounted outside armor to allow venting any explosions or fire
Purple: Cargo compartment, HMMWV-style rear hatch
    Green: Weapons station/turret
    Blue: Crew compartment

And here's the top view of the EF-14G. It's not finished, I still need to add the two-seater cockpit, tweak the wing position, add in spoilers, and add in another wing fold mechanism.

Well, after surviving the week-long hell known as Cub Scout Day Camp (I ran the BB range) and watching my new Eureka dvds (my reward to self), I got in the mood to work on my HSRSV. I did work on the wheels, which are standard MILSPEC Unidirectional tires and hubs. I also worked on the optional cargo racks mounted above the rear wheels along the cargo cover. They are solid on the bottom and mesh sides, designed to carry everything from jerry cans and ammo cans, to soldier's packs. It still needs bracing along the bottom of the rack.

Couple more minor updates. I recontoured the midsides and the lower part of the door, made some small little changes in shapes in some places, and began the armament by installing the base ring mounting on the roof.

Added the first of three different machinegun turrets I'm working on. This is the basic, non-folding one, currently holding a .50 caliber machine gun. It can mount anything from the M249 SAW to the M2HB-QCB, to the Mk-19 or M307. A different style low-profile turret can mount a Javelin or TOW launcher, or a type of LOSAT missile.

Ey, long time no seeing! :)
    That's nice Talos.
I supose the turret is unmanned?
You could use the HRSRV with a multisensor turret. Like the Hellios Swarm, or a telescopic one, that can be use to see over small hills, buildings, obstacles... even mounting that telescopic TOW turret i saw on a Piranha vehicle. :)
Keep up the good work! :D

Thanks Sanjurjo, good to see you.

The mounting on now is a regular manned one, unpowered, and with armor plating around it. I'm working on a couple different styles of retracting ones to lower the center of gravity. It can mount the CAWS remote control turret as well. It could also be equipped with a laser designator on a turret like the FISTV.

ground clearance is a bit low . . . but I guess the vehicle won't be doing any rockclimbing so that's okay :D
    neat truck :thumb:

    Thanks Backstept.

Yeah, it's primarily intended for on-road use, but it is four wheel drive and has good entry and exit angles so it would be able to do some off-roading. The lower hull is an angled v-bottomed armored piece to help survive IEDs, it can be removed, leaving a flat unarmored bottom with greater ground clearance. :D

EDIT: It's intended missions are specifically convoy escort and urban reconnaissanse, etc.

I've been on vacation the last couple days, but got some time to work on the F-14NGs, specifically the EF-14G top view. I pulled in the wings, reduced the span and tweaked things, I'm much happier with it now. I am working on the tails, they are close to being done, didn't put them in yet.

I've been doing some small updates to the Indiana, including detailing the larger spotter plane crane and the catapults. I've finally gone back and added all the added detail to the baseline design as well. The last picture is a comparison of the two.

I got a little bit more work done on the design this morning, mostly adding in the intakes and basic nozzles.

    f27wipsidezv9.th.jpg

I made a tiny tweek at the break of the forecastle deck of the Indiana. It's a small thing, but I think it really improves the look of the aft part of the ship.

Interesting.... Looks like an updated version of the F-15 ACTIVE?
  • TalosTalos0 Posts: 0Member
Yeah, that was one of the inspirations for the design. I always thought it was an awesome plane. :D
  • TalosTalos0 Posts: 0Member
Another update. I'm working on two different types of tails, haven't decided which I prefer, the F-15 based ones, or the F-22 ones.

I added a lot of paneling and blocked out the wing design as well, and the center pylon.

I haven't gotten any work done on the new plane in the last few days since I just started another semester at college. I just threw this quick and dirty size comparison between the F-14E and the new fighter together. Enjoy. :)

Okay, I finally updated the initial model of the F-27, with the F-15 tail, to the current standard.

Talos, your pics of the F-14 are about the best references for someone wanting to draw their own Tomcats, that I have come across on the web. I particularly like the new and upgraded variants that you have designed...and your pics came in very handy when I started drawing my (mini-tomcat) fighter; the SF-23 Thresher.:thumb:

I like the direction you're going in with the new fighter, though personally I think the body is a bit to skinny. While keeping the height of the tail where it is, the over all height (thickness) of the body could be increased a little without losing the look or feel you're going for I think.
  • TalosTalos0 Posts: 0Member
Thanks jimi. I've tried to keep most of the Tomcat pretty close to the original since the main body is the same, although some of the panelling is simplified, such as immediately behind and below the wing. If there is any help you need with the detailing, drop me a pm.

Heh, on the new plane, the fuselage is identical to the F-15, so that was the intended thickness. It does look skinny, especially with the huge F-15 tails installed. :D

Fiddling with some stuff, few minor panelling updates and the beginnings of the centerline tank.

I adjusted the position of the centerline tank, as well as adding a pair of armed FAST packs to the Warhawk. Since it lacks internal weapons bays, these are designed to give it a little bit of weapons without the RCS cost of hanging them exposed. The packs it has on now can accomodate a pair of AIM-9s or AIM-120s easily. I'm also working on ones for PGMs like the SDBs or small JDAMs.
