The Door could possibly be accessed by a button or some kind of key device in a hidden panel or the Star Wars Universe version of the Modern remotes keys used for some of our modern cars. Naturally however it would have normal seals or at least a manual latch to open from the inside incase the pilot needs to leave the vehicle. Given there technology level at least some type of electronic device to open the door should exist and practically be almost impossible to malfunction.. At most it would defiently make jacking the fighter difficult.
For rescue there would most likely be a manual latch release on the outside too, though it would probably be inside a panel for safety so probably not visible at that scale.
I did not like the blast boat either when i first saw it in the encylopedia since it seemed to break the rules (and therefor suspension of disbelief) until I read about them in action in the novels and it all clicked into place. The blast boat seems to be more like a PT boat in concept than an actual aircraft style fighter, so it does seem rather odd when thought of as a regular fighter. In aircraft terms it would be more like a very heavy fighter-bomber (like an Me110, P61 Black Widow, or even up to the gunship mods of the B25 Mitchel, de Havilland Mosquito or Ju88) armed with torpedoes or bombs for anti-ship duty but still able to defend itself and even go after fighters in a ponderous warhammer vs daggers sort of way.
Not a criticism, just curiosity: is there any screen based evidence for smaller Imperial ships? All I can remember from the movie are capital ships, and craft small enough to fit in the cap ships' hangers. I don't remember any smaller escorts on the edges of fleets, or anything like that. Are they just something that "everyone" agrees must be there?
Based only on the on-screen evidence (the 6 movies) you can conclude that the smallest warship the Empire ever operated was a Venator. Everything else is from the EU. Though if you take into account novelizations, I believe Carracks and Dreadnaughts are mentioned in passing in the ep3 novel (or maybe it was Labyrinth of Evil, I forget). However the mountains of supporting material apart from the movies show a bewildering array of other ships.
That design has always looked odd to me, but I've been wondering what could you do with it, after your magnificent version of the StarWing Gunboat. Maybe you could try the X-Wing Alliance version of it, if you don't like this one? http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:XWA-MissileBoat-3d-new.jpg

Also the Nebulon-B Frigate (the Rebel cruiser seen at the end of TESB) was supposedly used by the Empire originally, but many of their crews defected to the Rebellion resulting in there being a lot of the in the Alliance fleet. If you ever played the old classic X-Wing PC game you'll have found yourself coming up against these quite often as they were deployed as anti-fighter escort frigates for Imperial convoys.
^Now that is the one that I consider canon. The X-wing Alliance upgrade version is just too....pointy. I do like each version presented but the one in the pic above looks 100% Imperial.

Ah yeah.... he too. ^^
And it is not the first time this happens with me here, congratulations, superb work as always!:thumb:

The model itself is great
I just saw this - I take it as a compliment that someone would confuse my work with his.
Love the Blastboat!

$7500 is a bit too much for my blood right now though.
Great to see this kind of 3d mesh made.
Just bogged down with work and playing The Old Republic
I've put up galleries of the final Skipray and heavy corvette (which I've named Vigil-class) models.
Naaaah... more like this.

Matter of taste. ^^
Maybe a hybrid of both versions.
I know...
Yeah, I know.
We know.
But, technically, since you and I both know- we know, so you are correct.:)
