Out of curiosity i reactivated my old Pike-bridge-version and fumbled with the lighting. At least i'm surprised by the results. I think i have to try some kind of console lights for the enterprise bridge. (Right now i'm tempted to assign this bridge to another ship) K69mxEx.jpg

btw, could this be the bridge of a federation class dreadnought?

a small test of the engineering, and mixing around some TOS and TMP elements.

  • Battlestar Galactica (reimagined)

Recently i rediscovered some old mothballed models on my HD and decided to continue working on them for a while.
Currently they are rough sketches of Battlestars (from top to bottom: The small ATLANTIA, The versatile PEGASUS and the Galactica)

The Viper is a modified version of Warthog/Vivendi's MK I. I reconfigured her to be a 2-seat-scout-variant.

Maybe some of you recognize the Galactica model as the McQuarrie version? I had the feeling, his version never got the right attention and decided to start designing with his version as groundwork.

Sometimes I'm nearly ashamed, as my progress is nearly as slow as the tectonic shift (Rekkert finishes a bridge the same timespan I need to build a console).
BUT I'm still at it, and I will continue as long as it needs! At least I can show you some work on the bridge's centreconsole: eabvEia.jpg

The plating can be removed for maintenance. While I leave the frontplating steelgrey for the Pike era, I'm still thinking wether to use wood decor, or red plating for the kirk era. The overall change between Pike era and Kirk era should reflect the change in the ship's role from a tactical "war"ship (more conflicts back then) into the representative flagship (Already not the newest ship anymore, but famous, and for Kirk it gets polished into Starfleets figurehead.

So expect other floors on the ground (carpet?), decor panels, some more smooth curves here and there, and better lighting! Yes, you have to bear the dim Pike era lighting to enjoy the brighter 5 year mission lighting! (Until the Enterprise is taking the backseat position in Starfleet again)

Agreed, love it... it feels like something from the movies we never got to see... but the yellow is a bit too Klingon.

This similarity to the klingon interface is something hopping around in my mind for some time and i decided i eventually have to reinvent some klingon stuff as well. I guess i will base my designs on startrek 1 (tmp)- designs.
So more elegant lines (d7 / Ktinga style) and the red / green tmp interface.
Btw the first Tos Klingon light cruiser design is already in drydock: GvrtkrF.jpg

Still i'm already removing yellow elements from the enterprise's interfaces. ;-)

This ship looks SO much better than the Akira! I don't dislike the Akira class, but your model starts a craving for a tmp era show!

Another perspective of the fleet. They are roughly 3,8 km long (so double star destroyer, but not nearly a super star destroyer)

I have still to design the remaining 9 battlestars

Really cool! I've to thank you for your videos!

I did a test render with some materials to have some fun with the lighting setup. On the refit studio model, I discovered the neck spots as well as the Nacelle spots, which light the neck and the mainhull, so I tried to transfer this system to the TOS Era Enterprise.
Of course it's a really dark image, as I reduced the environment lighting to the minimum, and i fear, on some monitors it will be too dark.

And I am still searching for a good material for the Bussard caps, like frosted glass. As you see, I still don't get it right. I want the light inside to be very blurred and instead it is a good visible sphere. Maybe some of you are working with Corona Renderer as well and can point me to the right tutorial?
