Didn't Hamil voice the Joker in the Batman cartoons series? I don't recall watching much of it.

Yes, he did. He did a fantastic job, I have the series on DVD. He was still doing the Joker in games until a few years ago. I think the Arkham series of games was his last outing as the Joker. Also, if you've ever played the game X2: Wolverine's Revenve, Hamil was Logan/Wolverine in that. Like the Joker voice he did, it sounded nothing like he normally does and the two characters didn't sound similar either. He's an excellent voice actor. Plus, since he's not in front of the camera, people don't go "look, it's Luke Skywalker!" ;)

Yeah, he retired from the Joker, but has said he'd be back if he got to do 'The Killing joke' in whatever media, as that's his favourite story.

The Killing Joke is awesome, I have the comic. It's by far one of the best Joker stories ever written, so I understand Mark's position on that one. If they ever do a DTV movie of it (that's likely how it would be done) I'll buy it.

I wonder what a live-action feature directed by Chris Nolan would look like? :D

    We'll probably never know.

    Anyhow, moving on:

I've decided that I want to tackle a canon ST ship. I used GIMP to separate out the ortho's I have for reference. The UI on that program is appalling. Still, here's your sneak peak:

The USS Garden Trowel? Erm, um, Voyager? :D

It looks like the start of a Nova-class.

That it is. May have to call it the Garden Trowel. :p

Right, already stumped on this one. xD That back corner on the saucer, how would you go about building it?

    Here's how mine looks.

I've pondered that one in the past, when I've considered building the Nova-class. I could never figure it out.

Damn, if you're stuck on it that's not a good sign. You're way more practiced than I am.

Not really. I've only been using SubD for complex shapes like that for a short time. My old software didn't have that.

Are you talking about where the saucer edge merges into the engineering hull?
  • Vortex5972Vortex5972333 Posts: 1,211Member
I was meaning the back of the saucer, where the RCS is on the studio model. Though the connection to the secondary hull looks as though that should be smooth as well. Going to need to figure that out.

Edge Loop cuts to define the saucer edge is where I'd start.
  • Vortex5972Vortex5972333 Posts: 1,211Member
I've tried that, problem is it creates a hard line, where as it should be smooth.

    Here's what I'm using as a reference.

Yeah, you're using the actual model renders that Doug Drexler posted on his blog ages ago. Those the best references available for this ship.

For the curve, the only thing I can think of is to "relax it out" as you go towards the top. I've used this before with some success, and it may even be what they did in Lightwave XX years ago. (or, they may have even used a totally different method) Basically, the red line represents what I'm talking about. Though, before making such a drastic change to your base mesh, I'd recommend making a copy of your file.

It's a shame that his blog isn't going anymore. I also have ortho's of the Nemesis CGI model for the Ent E, so gotta give that a go some day. She is my favourite Enterprise.

I've tried what you've suggested. I may have to give it another go with a wider gap between the points, and maybe get rid of the loop in between. As someone who is rather indecisive and opposed to change, I save every time I do something. ;)

You've got me intrigued, so I think I'm going to have to give this ship a go in the near future. :)

Must stop having new ideas and actually finish a mesh for once.

In other news, new mesh! xD

About 380m long and 22 decks at a height of 3.5m each. Given that I pretty much eyeballed the whole thing, I'm rather impressed, lol.

Uhhmmm.... Just gonna lave this one here as well, then.

The idea here was to do a one week project, see how far I could get. No intent on fitting it in canon or anything, just an art project. Unfortunate, the 'verse had other notions so I didn't get quite as much time to spend on it as I'd hoped. Going to spend more time on this one, though.

Some part are still rough, you can probably tell where. Shuttle bay area needs reshaping as well. Clearly the NX class was an influence, so I'd see if there was a "canon" version of this ship, it'd be a 3 or 4 hundred series.
