heey guys, finally doing an spaceship again, this time for an school assignement (3D Visual Arts) i'm getting pretty comfortable with Maya, so here is my first spaceship.
Well it is definitely a warship, in the example below I have an top view, where the two red lines represent the ships main weapons (rail guns) and the blue panels are magnetic which accelerate the projectiles shot from the backside of the ship. so the ship is actually 1 massive gun.
the ship is approximately 150-200 meters in length.
now i can see engine nozzles it suddenly looks a lot more like a ship as opposed to just a platform. nice detailing on those nozzles and some of the other parts.
well my ship is probably finished, maybe some finishing touches but im happy with it, also made a first (good) render of it, still struggling with maya's (mental ray) render settings though.
The composition works quite well! A lot of time, the ship (or model) looks sort of pasted onto the background--the lighting, the shading, the weight of it, something doesn't work.

Another render from the opposite angle, still need to add some final details, i'm going to add paneling after that with textures.
