First 2 finished profiles. Realized that I had many mistakes with mixed up squadrons, tailcodes and carriers from not checking what I've already done so far. So these are canon going forward.
Now you're on an old school 2D frenzy?
For some reason when i clic on the images they are not loading properly and the lower part is missing so far, but wow the ships look sharp!
(btw glad i could be of some help with the old sheets)
Yeah and I can knock these out like crazy when I have the template done, so prepare for a deluge of stuff. And yes, Khay was kind enough to send a lot of the REALLY old stuff I did years ago that he has collected. It was really cool to see it, for a moment I actually felt I've progressed!
Here are the next two. I'm going carrier by carrier to keep things straight.
On the VFA-146 bird, is the pilot supposed to be the Commander of the Aerospace Wing or the Squadron Commander?
If the Aerospace Wing Commander, then you might consider a change of rank, Air Wing commanders currently in the US Navy are Captains (O-6) and I think one USMC Colonel.

I actually thought about that, and here is my rationale; The airwings flying from the oriskany light carriers are small, 2 squadrons each. As the carrier can embark only 12 fighters, one squadron, at a time and the USSN has 2 separate crews for each ship (like USN SSBN's) the CAG of the airwings assigned to the oriskanys is more of an honorary position assigned to the senior of the two squadron commanders. On the large intrepid class carriers the CAG would be a captain.
And great idea for the NASA one Mikey, I'll work on that when I finish up the batch I'm working on.
I could imagine a scene years after the war where some ship comes along and spots this really old fighter floating around. Kind of like finding old airplanes lost at sea.
Might do that down the road Mikey. Here is your idea for a NASA paintjob;
I've made a deviant art page as imageshack keeps shrinking down these profile sheets, plus now it ain't working at all; http://vir-inter-astrum.deviantart.com/
Look forward to it!
Here is tonights update, plus a WIP of the Super Corsair template, which is basically done minus some little do-dads. Don't know why but I feel more artistic pride (that sounds extremely poncy I know) doing 2d like these than 3d.
My pleasure! Hew is a quickie update before I leave for work of stuff I'm working on; profile of the EU Furizo, model of the EU Krabo trainier / light attack craft, and the USSN multi use carrier support craft.
The Krabo reminds me of a dolphin for some reason, the nose I think. Not sure how agile it'll be in an atmosphere with those dinky little wings, although the tailplanes make up for those somewhat.
With that oversized bulbous canopy, it looks incredibely small for a space capable military ship, even much smaller than modern trainers. The overall shape with the super large tail wings is however very interesting. On a pure practical note that big canopy will prevent air from properly entering the engine in aerobic mode.
Also, nice job on the deviantart account, much more enjoyable to browse than the former site. I preciously saved each and every new 2D art
Good points Khay. I shrunk the cockpit down on your advise, think it looks better. Also started chucking some ordnance onto the profile sheets to keep things interesting.
the smaller cockpit has improved it but the new ship is still REALLY ugly, nice to see some different armament on the corsair, must say it would be nice to see all these corsairs as textured models rather than just 2d pics.

Here is one at the higher resolution, looks much sharper I think

Since I'm here, might as well post another one;
And another one. Sometimes it's hard to know when to stop with the weathering...

Sound like a subtle hint that I should start working on it again Which I will once I get my mental notes sorted out

Really enjoying the squadron works.
Of to the saltmines for the day.
