EDIT
about done meshed, imported and textured in Vue Infinite
sorry I've been away so long, health, RL issues etc has been very bad
anyway, rebuilding the "Tradesman" ship from "Spelljammer" (fantasy space setting for D&D)
about 3rd time I've done this :P but well years ago and going into much more detail now.
doing it in Rhino, rendering in Maxwell.
updating it every few days to my site

Pic is of latest work, much of everything below decks is done, bar one stair case, and maybe some more accessories/detailing perhaps
think I'll add small ammo lockers below staircases as it's "dead space" otherwise and on such ships space is at premium
Spelljammer for those not familiar withit, is sort of like "Age of Sail", meets D&D, meets Pirates of the Caribbean, so it's pretty mad but with awesome ships etc :thumb:
the ships always have an organic/animal, usually aquatic design
pic of artwork of original tradesman, I'm goign from deckplans, which never match up with artwork as artists didn't have 3D etc

thank you!
Detialing:
currently working on doing locking mechanism on part of the railing which would be removable, to let folk/cargo on and off ship
Test renders are so essential, no idea how the hell I missed out the pillar on the rear entrance, doh!
and mapping went nuts on the top deck again when added new textrue, lol.
for letting cargo and passengers on/off easily.
no idea how such a thing would work in real life so thinking on likely materials etc I imagined using strap iron to build such a securing mechanism, as it needs to be strong, as such ships get involved in battle and high winds, seas etc.the panel is also damn heavy as it's made of 3" and 6" thick hardwood, it's protective bulwark in battle, another reason for strength, going with 42" high railings.
some other tweaks and texturing tweaks but proper texturign won't occur until it's all finished
(note most of these are, or started off from, bog standard maxwell materials from the Maxwell resource gallery)
Looking forward to this! love ship models!
thanks!
though there wood materials are, or started out as, default Maxwell wood mats, if you own Maxwell you can download them from the resource site for maxwell

ta!
also pic of the "ribs" and beams supporting the ship
Well, I'm in maya, and use Vray sometimes... and the procedural wood shader.. well .. sucks... so, always fun finding good textures
keep it up!

greta site, 13 megs/day free textures!
sails/fins done
the size of 'em means docking is impossible, sigh, no way they could be manually worked, always thought they'd need magic to "disappear" or fold in some odd way.
now working on rear windows
could just have a Looooong plank of wood to get off
Keep it up!
and thanks for the link!
any time!
detial work on the bow done
cheers!
more work!
rear windows
metalwork in front of the railings
and fittings, cleats, belaying pins etc
ta! big render grinding out now...
not sure if I want to do the ropes on the belaying pins/out to wings, lot of pesky work
Cryonic
um, no, the wings, stick out 56 feet from the side of the ship and ris eup slightly so are in line/same height or above as the ship's rialings, almost no dock could take that (hey I built the Rock of Bral docks, so I know! :P), so the wings would have to fold, shrink or magically disappear or some such

various pics
art pic at twilight
cartooned showing internals
a pair of game "stat cards" for doing yor own variants of the ship for a D&D game
I've never had any luck with the Toon render.. always goes wonky!
How much do you have left on her? ( not really familiar with the subject.. witch is my failing!)
meshing at the moment and doing bits n bobs I think need done
like "edges" or whatever, on edges of join between hull and deck, hard ot explain, like the bit of steel or hard stone they put on the edge of a step to stop it wearing down?
and MAYBE ropes on belaying pins, which would be tricky as that's complex, ick
and maybe simple bunkers for sails and ammo on decks near entrances
after all that's done: PROPER texturing!
lol doing some ropes for it at the moment
