but the gears look a bit fragile. they are gonna bend and break if the ship lands somewhere.
what about beefing them up a little?
I take it you're talking about the aft gears, they were made using photos of the set version for reference. Vipers actually have very robust landing gear if you compare it to modern jets. Look at the landing gear on an F-15: http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/f15eimages/f15ewalkaroudfr_title.jpg
They don't break off, do they?
Besides, they're canon this way so no, I'm not changing them.
Great work! I think this is probably one my favorite ships from nuBSG.
Robust landing gear is good and if you're going off of the studio model then sweet. I don't think I'd use the dinky landing gear on the F-15 as your example, though. You should look more at Navy aircraft. They're required to have more robust landing gear because of the hard landings on carriers and I think it would be the same for Vipers landing on a battlestar deck. An excellent reference would be the F-18 for durability.
The hornet and super hornet don't have nearly as robust landing gear as vipers. But that's all beside the point - I made it as it was in the show. With sci-fi craft that's really the only thing that matters, as I find speculation on the strength of made up future tech landing gear made of made up future tech materials kinda pointless
Beautiful work as always.
I have seen pics, but i never found this thread till now!
How wrong people were about the MKVIIE having not been attempted!
