  • It's a great ship but I don't see the need for it in the stargate universe. If the smaller ships like the 304's and 303's have their own hyperdrives why do they need to be carried? Maybe they could use a place other than earth for repairs and refits but a space station fills the role for that better than a carrier. The only real need for a carrier is to haul around F-302's and you really don't need a ship this big for that. Unless you're carrying a few thousand of them.

    Damn! You're right!
    Cairo station...
    I never even noticed.
    Bar.
  • Thanks. It's supposed to be one but I wasn't able to do much to it except get the basic look of the station since I thought it would be a good first model to make, I named it Vancouver Station since it was supposed to be in orbit above Vancouver in an animation. Also since I have Super Mario Galaxy and a working external hard drive =) I'm going to be busy, very busy =D and it's surprising that it was just noticed now.....

Looking good there tadz, though i'd change the font and size of the 'USAF' on the nose
  • starburststarburst0 Posts: 0Member
I agree, its way too big
Try and strack down the real USAF font, make it smaller and maybe have it like this

    USAF
    TRIDENT

With 'TRIDENT' in smaller lettering so it spans the same space as 'USAF' if you get me (something different) or mayb the class no you have given it

I'd also try and give it it's own 'border'. maybe place it on it's own panel or have it surrounded by panels...

EDIT- Update on the smaller carrier idea.

Added a load of windows on both sides of the ship, hopefully it'll show the deck layout a bit easier-
    fastattackcarrier7.jpg

I've also got some basic engines on the rear, they'll stay that shape and layout but i wanna add a load more greebles onto them before i'm done.
    fastattackcarrierEngines2.jpg

I'm not entirely sure what that shading is about above the engines, would building the polys there fix that or is it a bigger mess?

Finally here is a quick render of what the carrier would look like with it's 2 Corvette escorts (One didn't look right to me)

    Thanks....

How clear are the images i posted? I sent the last pic to someone else via e-mail and they said it was a bit dark, do i need to up the lights?
  • i can see it but maybe a lil more light would help see finer detail

    Dr. Lee,
I can barely see anything of your images. Waay too dark. I think it's not so much the light level of the scene so much as it might be what your monitor is set at. I had the same problem a while ago. Try recalibrating your monitor settings with less brightness and contrast with a tool that displays contrasting colors. Here's a link to where I went to recalibrate my monitor.

Display Calibration - DisplayCalibration.com - Calibrate your computer display or monitor online for optimal viewing. Brightness, contrast, color depth, resolution and freeware software downloads.

One thing I noticed is, I play video games, and when I do they always appear dark. So I think I adjusted my settings to fit the games. But for normal use, that new setting is too bright. So I just leave the settings lower when not playing a game, and use a saved profile when I go to play games. So, if you play any games, that might be why to you the pics look fine, but for others they appear too dark. Just save a profile to your current settings and then re-calibrate your monitor, save that as a profile too, that way you can jump back and forth easily. Then you can adjust the light levels in your scenes as needed and it should work out well. That way your scenes will appear more or less the same to everyone, which is really what you want.

I recalibrated mine and now I see that a lot of my images really are too dark. Hense part of the reason I am re-rendering and even remodeling some of my scenes. Try that and let me know how it works. It'd be interesting to see how close and different all our settings are at.

Below is a model that I have been making for a few days. This is the Ajax Outpost on the edge of the milky way, it is entirely self-suffencient, and is devoted for a deep space telemetry and as a early warning system for enemy attacks. Most of it is of course inside the mountain, duh.

Very  I dabbled with the idea of an offworld base a while ago, but i'm not that good at terrain so i gave up.

Will you be having an underground hanger for the larger ships?
  • what are those large-winged planes in the image?
  • scorpiusscorpius332 Posts: 0Member
I'm liking that base boberth2o, look forward to seeing more on that.

I can see most of your images fine Dr Lee, but occasionally I do come across one that I struggle with bits of. For example, that one with the carrier and the 2 corvettes in, I can see the carrier and the corvette on the left side of the picture fine, but the right side one is completely in darkness.

I'm getting scarily close to actually naming a ship...finished! I'm not sure if there's anything else I want to do with it right now. At some point I will probably revisit it and build some internal sets in it, bridge and hangar bays specifically. But for the moment I'm saying it's done. C&C as always, and maybe some final renders to come soon.
  • thats awesome but that yellow maybe better a lil darker or battle scarred but thats all i can add i spent 5mins looking at it, worth saving to my computer..if you dont mind:P

Those are some bombers that I have modeled before.

I haven't considered that yet but I suspose its possible, I really dont know yet. But below is a updated wip of the base with the internal working of the base inside the mountain.

I bloody well do mind as it goes...actually I really don't lol. Yeah I'd forgotten about the hatches, that yellow was just a temporary texture to remind me to create a proper one...ironic that lol. I'll get that sorted tomorrow.

Hey look, it's the Dedalgard. LOL! Sorry, first thing that came to mind.
  • come along nicely, what about that blocky object on the top-to the back? it seems a bit odd :P

Well to be fair that's pretty much exactly what it is lol. That's how I designed it anyhow.

Ah, see that's why I posted lol, I knew there'd be bits I'd forgotten about. I think you're talking about the secondary bay, designed to carry jumpers/gateships rather than fighters or bombers. But yeah I do have to figure something a bit more adventurous out for that part.
  • Wilson359Wilson3590 Posts: 0Member
Have your thought about combining your jumper bay design with the original tower design?
  • scorpiusscorpius332 Posts: 0Member
Oh you mean the tower on the original Daedalus? I suppose I could do. I've added some extra greebles to the bay. I'm rendering it out now to see how it looks with a few extra details. After that I'm going to start work on an orbit render over Earth.
