Updates - added the last of the sensor pallets - total is now eight, and I think enough for an armed explorer:
Compared with the Heavy she's not that weapons heavy, only six pulse cannons, no Plasma Lances or Missiles. Total length comes in at 418 meters at the mo. Detail work is ongoing!

Self-lighting rig needs to be done, and then... This one is complete. I do have an idea for a pod-like shuttle which I will explore a little. Fingers crossed on that score. Comments welcome, more later :-)

-Frigate/Ranger looks like something out of the Last Starfighter universe if they'd ever made more movies.
-Personally, I think the gun turrets on it seem a bit big. Maybe smallerizing them 10-15% would help suggest that this ship is bigger.
-I'd also like to see more detail on the engine nozzle thing.

The Ranger (Frigate) borrows from a few universes ;-) But mainly from my own mind, there is a change I want to make to it though. More on that tomorrow.
I'll play around with the turret size, not sure I need to shrink them too much. This is a big ship universe, I don't see fighters being an actual thing to worry about, and I can say that with some authority, lol. I may change the Stinger and remove the guns and rechristen it Dart. I'll think on it.

Mostly finished - added the lighting fx rig, as well as some new detail, fins on the nacelles, and a crossbar to link things up better.

It took me a few minutes to figure out what you changed. Kind of like one of those cartoons where you are supposed to figure out all the differences from another cartoon that looks almost the same.
I think it is an improvement. Overall, you have so much going on in the ring around the center module that I almost want the center module to be bigger.
I like both versions. I will say that the full ring adds more shadows to things below it. Some judicious self lighting could brighten it up so we could see the details.

I think that's why it's not quite sitting right with me, it was a happy accident that saw it happen, I arrayed a bit too far, lol

Cheers for the feedback. Having slept on it, I don't think this is the right direction for this type of ship. That being said, it has inspired something which I will share later :-) Feedback from my partner was basic, but to the point - it doesn't fit with the larger ship I built, technically neither does the Sentinel, although all three ships have similar design ethos. I have both versions, I'm going to sit on this for a bit and see what my back brain thinks after a few days.

More work on the Astris - added some sensor greebles, solar arrays to the outer ring, intake vents to the inner ring, weapons turrets and other misc detail. Still refining and laying things up on this one:
