Hi all,
about 5 or 6 years ago I posted some work that I had done on a stormtrooper helmet - the original thread is long gone, but I've been tinkering with the model again. I still need to make some adjustments to the helmet itself (I'm not totally satisfied with it), but I've started on the rest of the armor:

More to come. I'm almost finished the abplate now, I'll post shortly.

I'm trying to resist the temptation to compare your helmet here with the one I modeled to see if I got anything wrong.

Thank you! A few tweaks and I think it'll be there. Some preliminary work on the gloves and handplates:

I'll have to get my super nerd on and get my Trooper costume finished now!
Do tell - which set do you have? Or is it a homebrew?
No Rubies in my house!
Some work on the "ab plate":

Looks great! I would love to see some wires.

Wires below (the ab plate is a little dense at the moment ):

How politically incorrect!
He is simply poly challenged!
I was thinking the same thing.
So, is this a subdivided version of a coarser control mesh, or is this the actual mesh that you work on? I.e, do you model this using subdivision surfaces, or plain poly modeling? (Just curious about your workflow)
Haha Yeah, it's a "little dense" - I'll have to work on that. He is very poly challenged, that's for sure!
This is the actual mesh, I didn't originally model it as a subdivision surface like one normally would, although I'm sure that I could have. That said, it can be rendered as a sub'd surface if I see any "nickling" in a closeup.
Thanks Wiz! Yeah, the helmet is an ongoing work in progress, still not 100% happy with it. I need to sharpen the details around the eyes as well as making some other adjustments. I'm still debating whether or not to make the helmets asymmetrical, like the originals.
I'm in the process of going through ANH to find a full body shot of a stormtrooper with good posture and proportions that I'll use as a guide for the position and placement of the armor pieces - the variation amongst the suits and the actors wearing them is remarkable, to say the least. It's amazing how clumsy and rough they look on Blu-ray.
Here's a WIP of one of the pieces that connects to the ab plate:
