In this thread I am going to place all my none Alien stuff. I am going to start with a much maligned 70s Canadian made TV show called Starlost. It would be great to see this remade into what it could have been.

Included in this set is the original ship along with some concept stuff I've done.

Here are also a couple of animations using Kerkythea:

OOOK! Now I gotta build the new one!

What you think of Thea? I've been using Kerk (but sadly, I don't think it will be much longer for this world :( )

So far Thearender has been head and tails over Kerk. It is so much faster. I've talked to the wife (we all know who controls the money ...) about getting the full version in the new year. She seems to have no problem with it :) It's a little over 158 pounds so I will have to save for a couple of paychecks to be able to get it.

Check out my posts under "Cavebear" and you will see a lot more of thearender stuff I've been trying.

It's interesting. Fill me in on the background, as I'm not familiar with the books. Are these intended to be Terrestrial, or extra-planetary? I gather they're supposed to be able to run on unimproved roads? If that's the case, perhaps a little higher carriage for ground clearance?

Hi Walkyrje, The books by John DeChancie is a trilogy that centered around an ancient "Skyway" that traversed the stars You could actually travel between the stars by driving! It was a self repairing road, so for the most part the trucks that transported goods were not meant to travel on undeveloped roadways. The road actually connected "Gates" that they called "Tollbooths" that would fling you to the next planet similar in nature to "Stargate" (but the books came out earlier 1983, 1984, 1986. ;) )

Nice cab! Are you going to make the part behind the cab into living area? They needed that in the books as they never really new what they would find on the other side of the gate if it was a new one for them.

Are those the chairs from the Alien scene?

Wow I haven't read those books in ages! Nice work on the truck!

Yes that's where I think the living quarters should go. Yes those are the Ron Cobb chairs. I modified them to be One Two and Three seat versions, but I am going to swap them out to something original to this work later when I get the design finalized. If I am remembering correctly they had as many as seven occupants in the cab at one time, so I will configure it for seven people.

You're going to have a flat, you keep that up. ;)

Much more room than the last one. Kind of an RV feel to it :o:lol:
But I don't like the front wheel covers at all.

I agree, but I wanted to see it as a truck and not the bridge of some space ship ;)

Well, it might go sugar doughnut on him at some point.

Loved that set of books. I still re-read it now and again. Very nice work BTW.

Is that a risk? I looked for the books at the used bookstore, but they weren't there.

Is your "Starlost Arc" intended to be a version of the Valley Forge from Silent Running?
  • StarriggerStarrigger476 Posts: 698Member
Starlost was a Canadian TV production that had as original conceptualizers the likes of Douglas Trumbull, Harlan Ellison and Ben Bova. here is a link with all the gory details: http://www.snowcrest.net/fox/star.html here is a shot of the ark:

    ark02a.jpg

There are additional model pictures and background information on the site. It was a great concept with pour execution. I would love to see it remade... As for the Valley Forge look, well Trumbull was a producer and did the SFX on the film so I guess that's going to happen... And they did use shots of the Valley Forge and scenes from Silent Running when they were selling the concept:

LOL, Ok, so the scene could use a little better editing... The ship is one of my concept designs for a remake of Starlost, which has at its heart a huge Generation ship the "Ark"

Sadly, I currently just have the first one in my possession. but Amazon has a few used ones:

As for the possible risks, well lets just say that when you don't have a map and don't know where you're going, you could end up anywhere! :D

You know... If I don't settle on one thing I'm destined to not finish any ;)... Anyway, here is something else I have in the works... It's a container ship with docked cargo shuttle
