A very good start on the Y-Wing.
I have always enjoyed the Y-Wing and wish someone to re-create a VERY DETAILED model of it.

Simon did a while back...in 2006 I think it was...

Indeed, best 3d Y-wing around, as far as I am aware.

I'd love to see other 3D models of this, I havent found any at all to look at.

Topside details. I didnt like the look of kitbashed pieces glued to a box, so I pulled the top off of the power plant, to reveal the depth that helps the ship look more like it's hull haas been removed.

Around as in, "in existence." I don't have a link of it that's still working. I'll have to ask him for a recent shot.

There are some shots over on F3D. He updated the sufacing on the Max version about a year ago (vray materials and such) and I started to do the same on the LW one. But time is a premium these days.

    Man, how tedious is this?

The greebs I'm using are the best approximations I can make out from the wide variety of ref pix I have.

I'm willing to bet there are no two YWings alike, since they've been modified and repaired so often. The ships we see in ANH are probably about 50 years old or so, and have been through the wringer.

    Anyway, heres my update.

JW - I was wondering if you have any updates on the model.

    Please.
  • JWWrightJWWright171 Posts: 0Member
No, none yet. I'm wondering what to do next. Maybe finish the detail on the engines, add some fine detail to the wings, add an astromech and maybe some retractable landing gear...

Hopefully I'll have a lull this week to do some more... thanks for asking. I appreciate it!

I thought you were going to work on the nose lasers, detail under the nose lip where the lasers are mounted; the top Ion mount and cannon.

I think the aft section is done other than the landing gear.

    Ah! Thats right... I am!

I'm also going to detail the cockpit... whew!

I'm exhausted just thinking about it... that puts this model at about the halfway mark.

What have I gotten myself into?

    =o)

    lol.......

I forgot the cockpit too. If you what I can map it. I am pretty good at that.
One I noticed; the nose seems to be little to big. Might what to check that.

JW do you have an update on the model or have given it a rest for awhile.
    Would like to see more.

Ha ha! I appreciate the enthusiasm, guys!

Here's an update, hashing out the forward landing gear rig... I may beef up the struts.

    More to come...

Looking really good JWW :thumb: I don't think you will need anything stronger for the landing gear because Star Wars never really paid much attention to that - X-wing had some small landing gear as well.

Thanks! Onto the aft gear now. But first, a little video ....

YouTube - Y Wing Forward Landing Gear Test

Really? No way to embed youtube?

Pretty common forum feature, why doesn't this forum have that?
