A another month, another model. I'm kind of at an intermediate stage with this where I'm still playing with the hull before fixing the mesh.

Another issue with this model is that a lot of over sized features make this vessel smaller than it really is. (cruiser sized, around 180m tall).
Some of the lights aren't working properly, or are overexposed. This ship is a Heavy Reconnaissance Vessel and is made by the same manufacturers of this ship:

And for those of you that are interested, I published a print featuring the previous model on deviantart... Here's the link...

I made some changes to the model, still haven't fixed the mesh, maybe in a few hours...

Thanks, I recently published an image on deviantart featuring this ship, check it out to learn more about the functions of the vessel.

amazing designs, its like taking homeworld to the next level, really amazing work, how big is this thing? some figures or size relations would be nice
Hopefully, I'm going to work on a few pictures that better illustrate the scales of the ships over the next few months.

Ah, sometimes the creative process is a funny old thing. Spend age working on a model you know isn't quite right. Walk away from it for a week or two, then see exactly what's wrong with it and how to fix it.... But realise that you have no time. Anyway, here is a preview of the dead concept, which will later be reborn as.... Ronin.

A new year, a new concept....

    https://p3d.in/NQbKg
What's the base model. Originally, the pronged end was suppose to be forward, and the point the rear, now I'm not too sure.

It'll be styled, ultimately, similar to the gyoshi
    http://supersampled.deviantart.com/art/Gyoshi-151110322

But I may skip this design in favour of fighters from another manufacturer.

    hmmmm

Don't mind me, just posting a redesign of an old concept. Now contemplating designing something by the same manufacturers, but much much larger.

Heres a look rendered with v-ray with textures and lighting closer to what I want.

Still trying to figure out if this should be a reactionless drive vessel or to stick some engines somewhere.

I also believe that this vessel needs more panelling, but I'm at a loss how to do details in a way that matches this organic shape. Might just load up a voronoi generator and call it a day.

ModellingI68m6pi.jpg 80% of the way there, before I add textures I'm going to add a few more details to the hull to break up the hull shape and add more details to really give this thing a sense of scale.

I think paneling would hurt the organic flow of the thing. At most, slap a Vorlon- or Shadow-esque texture on the skin but don't panel it. Nobody would make a form like this out of assembled sheets of handwavium--the patching of battle damage alone would drive the supply clerks nuts! :D

More importantly, it would hurt the lines of the thing. Logistics and realism aside, the hull looks better in this smooth, "grown metal" format than it would if you paneled it.

    JMHO.

I like that small vessel that you based on your Vaeyate.... Reminds me to Homeworld 2.... The Hiigaran fighters.

Looks like Leik Myrabo's laser lightcraft.

Something that might interest you--a way to do surface detail

I wonder if--instead of mouths--torpedo tubes, phaser banks, windows--impulse ports--if these could be used for DeepDreaming

O/T if only FASA had this http://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Printing_metal_in_midair_999.html

Heh, fair enough. Part of the problem with this model is that the vessel is quite large and there should be some texturing there to help with the scale. Maybe just some light weathering to the chrome metal perhaps.

Anyway, been working on it today, here's a progress gif:

There's a lot of homeworld blood in me so that's understandable although I've always been far more partcial to tiidan fighters personally.

The vaeyate concept is one of my first designs within this universe and really gave me the confidence to go ahead and make more. If you'd like to find out more about I've got a fact-sheet up at DA. http://supersampled.deviantart.com/art/Vaeyate-595468016

The lightcraft brings back memories, always found it amazing that you could use lasers to "burn" air that way although I'm not surprised to see how little traction it's received. I've always found the idea of high powered lasers point into the sky to be a general disqualifier for most things in life with the latest interstellar proposal being no exception.

Going to have a sleep, then I'm going to re-arrange my model and attempt to texture.

Here's my final high res WIP sheet.

A new day, a new progress giff.

Re-did a huge section of the model, it's now neater and more geometric, although from a distance you might not be able to tell.

    Rg051iO.gif

I've also spent some time figuring out how the textures will look, although I have no idea how to unwrap the UV's for this beast.

I'm starting a new series of images this year, focusing on fleshing out some of the ship lines and the universe as a whole.

    Woaa he lives!

Glad to see you still posting, this thread, back in the day, was one of the things that pushed me to learn 3D back in 2009! Now I am lucky enough to be working in the industry doing 3D everyday! Keep em coming!

    Cheers
