Now here's a "small preview"! By now I wasn't able to upload the full res image because of some connection problems (it's a 30mb jpg :D ).
But as soon as it works I'll tell you (At the small one there's about nothin to see).

Already began to work on a new project. Monday I'll get a kinda new wacom intuos3 a5 wide tablet and then the skechin' fun begins!

That's one seriously mean looking ship man. Really impressive. Love the data sheet too! One small note - it says "lenght" instead of "length" when talking about the support craft.

    Thanks to you guys!

The full resolution image (23500x11500px) is available by request.
The bigger renders are slightly unsharp at full resolution, thats because I hadn't enough time to render them at the planned resolution.

Oh jeeezus....I think my computer craped out its memory dump on that thing... really almost 30k in length, that almost made my kidneys hurt. great work man the design is agressive but maybe alittle overzelus for my taste.... meh just thinking out loud. hahah.

"Our Cruisers cant handle a ship of that Magnatude...hahahah."

In fact it was planned to scale her about 21k but unfortunaly somehow while working on her I accidentally scaled her up to 29k. I noticed it first when the print layout was already finished. And finally I haven't had enough time to correct it...

its cool. i think should leave her at 30k...

Now here it is! It's big enough to make about all details visible - you can even see separate windows!
But also it's so big that you can see every f****n mistake I made.
    39MB Rapidshare...

    Hi JBJHJM,

I tried downloading from Rapidshare but unfortunately could not. Really sorry to trouble you but would really appreciate if you could post it on torrentz and send me the link.

I am a huge fan of works like Fractal's and yours and would really like to add your FEROCIOUS-CLASS to my uncompleted IMPERIAL SHIPS COMPARISON CHART. Have attached a preview here and as you can see, do not know how to complete the bottom part as in your "small preview", the bottom part of your ship was totally dark.

Plus, if you have a front, back, top & bottom profile of the FEROCIOUS that you could also post in torrentz, that would be absolutely fantastic and you have my utmost gratitude.

    My Sincere thanks in advance.

The weapons description says "4 main main turbolasers". Typo?
2.5 * 10^71 J. Does there even exist so much energy in the universe? ^^

well it looks like some typo...

@dornrax: unfortunally, there's not too much I can offer you. I'm very pleased you wanna include the Ferocious in your size comparision, but I never done the bottom side of her. And I ain't sure if I'll ever do. With 30 million polygons, cinema 4d had some big problems rendering it (wasn't possible in one piece :P) and its damn hard work. Dont know how Fractal can do it that fast. However I'll upload the fullsize img to my server so that you can download it.

maybe I can also render a top&back&front view. But thats all I can do without spending some more 100 hours on it. Personally, I moved to a new project half a year ago.

    JBJHJM,

Thank you and Happy New Year! Its ok about the underside of the ship & the full size image cos managed to download it finally on Rapidshare.

As for the top, back & front view, that would be very helpful.

    Now working on the engines:
    bau103a.jpg

I just had alook at this post and was amazed by the detail that you've put into these models. Great work by the way. It takes a lot of patients to build all those greebles. I find you get so into it next time you look at a clock its like oh crap where did that 4 hours go and my wife is asking why is'nt dinner cooked. Oh well! Just a quick question on engine glow, how did you go about it?
  • Gog3t3kGog3t3k0 Posts: 0Member
I think he used composite nodes (or something like that, i don't know the name of this function in lightwave) :)
  • JBJHJMJBJHJM0 Posts: 0Member
the engine glow's build with some light sources, the intensity and color is controlled via xpresso (c4d's logic elements system).
One light source is deep in the engine to show a dark orange glow if the engine is idle.
One parallel light source in the engine (behind the ring elements) to create the weaker outer rays.
And two parallel light sources just behind the engine to create the main energy output.
It took me a day to figure out how to make the glow look good.
4h is nothing :D I worked a lot on her because she was my art graduation project at high school...
The longest time spent for it was 22h at one day (ok the next day began somewhere in these hours)...
It's fascinating to see how fast Fractal can do it :P
  • Sorry to bump an old thread. Is there anyway you could post a belly shot of the Ferocious? It would finish the whole mental image of what it looks like as a whole.

    Hi JBJHJM,
Am I really glad to know that you might get started on a new model. Please keep that slight prickling in your fingers as I am sure everyone will be eager to look forward to a new design from you. But I also understand its lots of work cos just using a super simple software like Microsoft Paint to texture Crix Dorius's "TARKIN-CLASS SUPER STAR DREADNOUGHT", I'm already finding it a challenge. Fractal has hit God level in the amount of detailing and efficiency when he churns out his designs. Guess this comes with talent, passion and practise. I believe you will find your own niche too.

As for having too much work to do at the moment, I've been in China for the last 5 months+ on a major project working side by side with businessmen, bankers etc. Most days we have meetings and at times partying at night with the young local girls is taking its toll on my health. Plus the workload and stress level does not help. Im amazed at the abundant amounts of energy my younger associates have when it comes to juggling work and these babes, but not for someone at my age of 42 years.

Having only my trusty laptop with a 15.6" wide-screen to work with in my hotel room, I found my eyes were squinting too much till I had to give up trying to carry on the texturing and touching up of further models like the "TARKIN II", Imperial Cruisers and Destroyers in what little spare time I can find and complete the "IMPERIAL SHIPS COMPARISON CHART". Really can't wait to finish this China project and be back in the comfort of my good old home where my 24" wide-screen LCD babies await me to carry on.

P.S. JBJHJM, perhaps you might have forgotten. I made a request quite some time back if you could kindly post a FRONT, TOP and BACK view of your "ANNIHILATOR-CLASS AD FEROCIOUS"? Better still even more angle views of it and if you ever complete the bottom texturing, whoa!!! Its a beautiful design where even my own brother places it as his desktop. As for me, I always open 1 of Fractal's posters with his "ASSERTOR-CLASS" accompanied by Imperial Cruisers and Destroyers + your "ANNIHILATOR-CLASS" poster for inspiration. These 2 posters are my favourites of all time.

Lastly, your "ESCORT CRUISER" is also a beautiful design and if you could kindly repost it as like the above request + with a side view, I will really appreciate it. My sincere thanks. :D
