You dont know what you like, we the people elect more people that promis to do things with our best intrests in mind.
The Narcels dont look good on bottom, we voted. there. lol.....
Try a redesign. if not then put them back on bottom. but plz dont use them as landing struts. ouchie, warp field destablization due to premature stress fractures on the NArcels.
I like the idea with the nacelles on the belly of the cutter version.
gives a fresh and compact look.
the nacelles somewhere on the upper side of it looks bad the way they are modeled now and I doubt another look to the nacelles would change it.
another idea might be to put them onto these wing-like structures, maybe a little inspired by the Danube-class ships.
but then again, it makes the whole model look like a chubby TOS Galactica, especially in dorsal view, and I don't think that's what you want ;-)
Hmmm, I actually quite like the dorsal nacelles - reminds me a little of the BoP with its wings raised. Not too fond of those "miner's lamp" bussard guards though...
Okay. Either I need to resize the nacelles if I'm going to use them in this configuration OR I'll need to completely redesign them. Either way, I'm not too fired up about this variation.
ItAâs more interesting, but I was talking about something like the two options in the attached pic. Hope you donAât mind about the rough sketch over your rendering.
our rendering.
About the naceles shape, itAâs fine the way it is, no matter the configuration. Maybe just a size adjustment as you like.%2
Of the two concepts, Starship, I actually kinda like the top one. I'll try that and see how it looks. The important thing to remember with starship design is that there's more than one angle to look at a ship from- what looks good in a front view might look terrible from the side, top or other angle. But I have a feeling that putting the nacelles at the ends of the weapons pods might look really cool. Gimme some time to try it out.
Oh, and please remember in the future, Starship, to post JPG's or GIF's- BMP images don't convert into thumbnails on vBulletin boards.
Okay. I think this looks tons better now. It's a compromise between Starship's latest suggestion and what I originally had. The nacelles are still on the underside, but they're now fastened to the weapons pods and tilted slightly to fit the angle of the pylons. Personally, I think this look great. I'll need to fill in some areas and tweak some minor stuff, but the overall idea looks very sound now.
I spoke with my wife today about my archived 3D files and whatnot that I left at home. Please excuse me for a moment while I vent a little bit:
While I was away at Basic Training "something" happened to my desktop PC which made it impossible to boot up. When I got into AIT I asked her to copy all of my files to CD or her HD and then send me the physical drives and a USB-to-IDE cable via snail mail. Wonderful wife that she is, she did precisely what I asked her to do...
So I got the drives, three of them, in the mail all right. They were in a flimsy, padded manila envelope along with the USB-to-IDE cable. Delicate, fragile hard discs sent in such a manner... well... needless to say, the drives are pretty much shot. I expect that they were put through an X-Ray machine, too, which has a nasty habit of erasing any data on them. I can't even get my laptop to recognize that the drives are readable when I try to power them up- they just spin uselessly and I can't access them AT ALL.
So I tell my wife this little problem and she says, "No problem. I'll just copy everything I copied over to this handy-dandy 8 Gb USB drive and send it to you."
Today, when I spoke with her, she told me that she sent it. "Great!" I said with much relief. "I can't believe all that data actually fit on that one memory stick, though. Wow."
"Oh," she said, "well, it was only one or two gigs. It didn't even come close to filling it completely up."
"...."
"Honey? Are you there?"
"Yeah. Uhm. Exactly which folders did you copy to the jump drive? Just my 3D files and stories?"
"No. Everything. Before I sent you the drives, I copied everything that was on them to my laptop. Everything."
Friends, I do believe that about 8 years worth of archived meshes, personal projects, irreplaceable and unfinished stories... a mass of work which represents a significant portion of my creative ability... is gone.
I'll get the jump drive in the mail early next week. Pray that it has AT LEAST my 3D meshes and stories. All of my install files I can live without- those can pretty much be replaced over time. But the other stuff is priceless and invaluable. The Locksley, the Bonnaventure, Starbase 77- all gone.
I guess the only good news is that, while I most likely lost ALL of my stories, I didn't lose ALL of my ships. The more recent ones from the last two years are surely gone, but the WIP pics are archived here so it's possible for me to use those as a guide should I decide to reconstruct them.
Thanks, Starship. I tried a different method of retrieving the files but it was unsuccessful. Unless I can find a way to somehow reconstruct the drive's integrity I will just have to accept the loss and try to rebuild everything all over again. :cry
Well, like I said, unless I can find a way to reconstruct the data, which is probably expensive and requires resources unavailable to me, I will just have to consider it lost and move on. This might be a good thing, however- it gives me the opportunity to rebuild some of the best ships I've ever modelled to even higher standards. I think that I will begin with the Locksley. Expect a Locksley V2 thread to start soon.
Thanks, man. I've actually begun work on the Locksley already. Just the saucer so far, but expect a new thread in the next day or two. Gotta go now; time for formation in a few.
I've finally completed this beastie. Renamed it the Damocles on a whim (that can be changed, of course). Made the ship longer, added a mid-section, added some details here and there, altered the nacelles a tiny bit and tweaked a few minor things all over. But, yeah, now she's done. And I somehow managed to finish it JUST before deploying to Afghanistan, too. Whew. Now I just gotta decide if I'm gonna release her to the public or not....
No. No interiors. Perhaps I'll get time to work on that when I'm deployed (highly doubtful). But, for now, it's just the exterior. I'm glad you like the changes. And thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
I'd reduce the impulse engines to half to one-quarter their current size and add a shuttle bay or two, for survey shuttles, escort fighters, workbees, whatever, etc.
This is a border scout ship- smaller than the Defiant. Not enough room for a shuttle bay. Perhaps twice the size of a runabout. It has a cargo hold and that's about it. I mean, dude, check out the size of the windows on it- simply not enough room.
Blast. My daughter pointed something out to me about the aft section that I never noticed before- a mistake. So, uhm, I'm fixing it. Well, to be more precise, I'm redoing it entirely. Might as well adjust some of the dimensions on it, while I'm at it. Hopefully I'll be back with a finalized version before the night is out.
On the issue of shuttles, indeed, the ship is too small already for a shuttle bay, but what about two external docking ports, one behind each wing, where a shuttlepod could be berthed, kind of like a dinghy, perhaps Type 18. Or maybe even workbees. They could be useful for repairs, going down to a planet's surface when the cutter can't.
Just to put things into a little perspective, my dad owns a 35 foot sailboat. Its not very big, five or six people is about the limit if you want to be comfortable even with all the space above deck, but even it has a small inflatable dinghy that we can hoist up on the davits at the transom, because sometimes its just not practical to take the sailboat into certain areas. I think some kind of very small, very spartan auxilliary craft would be useful for the Damocles in the same way.
The other thing I would say is that the deflector looks a little small. If it were me, I'd make a bit of deflector housing on the bottom of the nose, so the deflector could be a little taller, and then inset the deflector itself a bit more into the hull.

Next on Top Gear, a futureistic star ship pushed to its limits and in ridiculas ways piloted by the STIG.
well done.
I wonAât forget.
About the new version, looks fine! Go ahead. :thumb:

Indeed. Let us pray.
You have my pray.
I hope the best for you to retrieve your stuff...
I have been following your work and the ship looks great! :thumb:
