  • A new Jupiter 2 that makes sense

I am sorry I haven't been able to keep up with this thread. I have been very busy at work and a lot of my free time has been spent on other things! :) However, in the spirit of this disjointed thread, I actually have updated all the interiors of the original Jupiter 2 (a ship that doesn't make sense spatially) instead of updating the "Jupiter 3" (which I still intend to finish in a high-resolution, highly-detailed form.

For what it's worth, here are some images from the recently updated, original Jupiter 2 interiors. None of these images contain "fake" lights. In other words, the ship's interior is lit entirely by the prominent structural ribs, sci-fi equipment and the small lights on the displays, plus one Sun outside of the viewport shining into the interior. All lights on the display panels are fully animated and flash in patterns consistent with the actual computers used as set pieces for the 1965 TV show.

I am using Cinema 4D R20 as the modeling program with the Octane 4 render engine. And yeah, there is still some noise in a few of the images - I just have to turn up the settings in Octane.

Prompted by the comments at the Lost in Space Forum, here's another batch of images of the Main Deck. This is complete except for some minor tweaks. I will be moving on to the Lower Deck. I've also changed the camera response curves to give the images a bit more vividness.

And, for those of you interested in such things, that seemingly odd, intensely colored, floor material in the original Jupiter 2 set apparently was Marmoleum.

Glad you're smiling rojren! Apart from the darker-themed first 5 or 6 episodes, it was often silly. But it redeemed itself a bit in Season 3 in a few episodes such as "Antimatter Man." Nonetheless, the set design was absolutely first-rate for a show of its era.

Here's the Galley on the Lower Deck. It's based upon the version seen in "Wild Adventure" in Season 2.

An un-processed still from the upcoming video. The J2 escorted by a trio of J3 ships.

Here's a test animation of the new Pod in its launch bay. I'm still playing with the room details. The intent is to have some sort of diagnostic station on the left walls, though having three here is overkill. Possibly some kind of hose attachments to the Pod's two roof tanks would be in order...

    Thanks Chanur!
Here's a wide-angle shot of the Upper (Main) Deck. I'm still working on updating old, old files of the Lower Deck. Translating old (10-year!) 3ds MAX files into an Octane-Friendly, more-detailed Cinema 4D format is a bit tedious. :) But it does allow me to add considerable tiny details that would have frozen my computer in 2010!

BTW, here's another J2 flight deck display panel graphic.

Sorry about the long delay, Transwarp. I have been busy working on a new video featuring the "Return of the Jupiter 2" and haven't been paying much attention to this older thread. One of the newest clips - and it's very brief - is here:
