So, it's been 3 months since I last poked at the Reliant. I got a little stuck because I didn't like the greebles on the underside. They just looked too...plain.
Also, work took precedence over hobbies, and that took some time away.
ANYWAY! Figured I'd open up the file and just dug in. Did some detail work on the middle bits.
That took way longer than it should have. At least the main hull is done with the detail stage. Well, except for the impulse engines/shuttle/fighter bay on top. I'm guessing those 10 squares on either side of the neck are supposed to be torp launchers.
I spent a few hours working out the panels on the underside of the hull. Now I need to do the front-facing panels.
With the neck added on, it's really starting to look like a proper starship! I still need to detail the impulse engine and shuttle bay on the top to finish off the main hull section, though.
What could the U.S.S. Miranda look like in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds? Well, if we take a look at the Farragut from Season One, maybe it'd look like the U.S.S. Reliant concept by Joe Jennings, Mike Minor, and Lee Cole?
I also restored the windows. I think I'll update the windows in my Enterprise model and use this arrangement for the Reliant. Which means I need to rebuild the bridge for the Enterprise as well as modify the saucer.
So, it's been a while, hasn't it? I started blocking out the nacelles, and instead of posting a few WIP shots with the basics all together, I ended up just detailing the entire section. After watching SNW s2e1 and seeing some interesting detail going on, I couldn't figure out just where the disruptors were supposed to be! Plus, there were some interesting differences between my reference images that I had to figure out which ones to use.
So... I figured I'd add my own bits to fill out the design. With that said, here's the warp nacelle/big honkin' disruptor canon.
I'm an idiot - I was confusing your Farragut and Reliant models! Just checked out the Farragut orthos - both ships look great!
I think we all have days like that. I think it's every day for me, but I digress.
Still need to work out some irregularities in the texture. But that major section of the hull is pretty much done. Just need to build the shuttle bay interiors, add the greebles that go above them, and construct the roll bar and mission pod.
It's got windows, Jerry! Windows!
Also, the upper warp field crystal thingie is loosely based on the one from the NX-01.
