  • NCC-1701-A model 'prop'

A few years ago I pulled out an old cg model I had made of the refit, done way back in 2002, and converted/updated it to my current app to do a fun shot pretending it was a prop on my dining room table. My version of the Deboers Hulls kit I guess you could say :) ..Actually I kinda wish I had one of those... Anyways here's the result:

In the right hands, any of the 3D apps can produce great results. I remember seanr's amazing bridges from way back in 2003 and they looked really good - all in Truespace. The great thing about Blender is it has excellent functionality and is totally free and unrestricted. Some top notch looking stuff is being posted by blender users so its nothing to sneeze at.

  • Nebula Class Starship

Looks great, I think the Nebula is very under rated and I wish we saw more of it in TNG/DS9. This base model is an excellent foundation to build details on!

Funny thing is, lightwave used to be one of the cheapest apps, but I think now its the most expensive since everyone else came out with the Indie licensing thing.

  • Star Trek Reimagined Fleet

Nice work Gerard, Im particularly fond of the Connie and Miranda as my favs. Hope to see more beauty images of those, and also the Locknar.

The Oberth doesnt seem TOS enough for me though, seems like its still the TMP era. The storage container on the secondary hull of the Locknar seems a little simplistic, I like what you did with that on the Drexler class better.

Itd be great to see some posed shots of these, perhaps with your orbit plate or something :)

Well, Its a tough one. I guess it comes down to how often youre upgrading your software. But Max, Maya and Houdini all go for 250 a year now.. but of course you have to keep renewing. And i really hate this new subscription model jibberish. But then again Lightwave is 1000 straightup or 500 to upgrade. So the other guys have definitely made themselves competitive for the single/freelance users

  • Autodesk "Indie" Subscription pricing $265/year

Im posting this in case people arent aware of it. If its old news, I apologize. But in the event people are still bleeding over the regular subscription prices, I thought id be good to put on blast.

As of mid-2019, Autodesk started offering an "Indie" subscription pricing structure for Maya and 3ds max. If youre making less than $100k/year then you are eligible. The software is fully functional no restrictions. Its now $265 a year.

This was released by Autodesk with very little fanfare, and regular users were not informed of the pricing change :/ So to the home or freelance users still forkng out $200 a month, this is welcome news.
