Thanks! I'm glad you guys like it, and that the era I'm going for comes through. I tend to shy away from the sexy, hot rod style ships, or the big bad ass destroyers. I like to build small ships with character haha. Like little science ships or scout ships.
Thank you! It's all about the proportions, I spent quite a while roughing it out with simple primitives first just to get the proportions the way I wanted them. For today, I did some detailing work on the underside.
and a close up after a bit more progress... (forgot how much I hate shapemerging)
The interpretation is great. The only thing that bothers me is where the cylinders meet. Considering the framework underneath, you would have smaller panels closing in the intersections. Some panel lines running along the intersections would give it some idea of its construction, unless you have another justifiable alternative idea.
A good anolgy is where wings meet the fuselage of any aircraft.
I could totally see that. Though going back and fixing that now would be a pretty serious undertaking, and considering im just doing this for the hell of it, it's probably not worth it. But I'll keep that in mind for next time.
For today I've been detailing the underside of the secondary hull.

I like the shading and the detail. Just curious is there some film-grain in this render?
Not intentionally, more the effect of having the settings for photon mapping quality turned down on mental ray, and then adding a bit of contrast to the finished image. Looks cool though!

I agree. It really sells the idea as something between the ENT and TOS eras. :thumb:

I went a little crazy on the detailing of the pylons, but hey its fun, so why not!?
