Hey everyone. Its been a long time since I posted anything, so here goes!

This ship is using a fusion rector for power and EM propulsion for sublight drive. It has EM thrusters as well. There is a small landing shuttle that docks underslung between the warp rings. Just started on it so I'm still working things out.

Added panels to the main hull and started on some textures beginning with the forward ring. Just the diffuse map at the moment. Crits welcome.

good point lol. I think Im going to do a couple unwrapping tutts. I need to get my uvw template put together better. The way I have things is making it hard to line up dirt marks and lines.

Ok so instead of working with the uv map i had I think i figured out a better way to do it. I seem to be making a lot of progress right now. Just the diffuse map atm. Crits always welcome.

Why thank you. Yeah, I knew my UVW template was a mess and making my life harder. Sorting that out has been a major help.

A little more done on the ring texture.

Looking good. How much weathering are you planning on doing total and is this ship designed to enter an atmosphere?
  • kvorshkkvorshk171 Posts: 76Member
I figured the leading edge of the forward ring and nose would take a decent coating of dirt due to hiding out in an asteroid belt or something like that. And I don't think this is going to hit atmosphere. I have been working on something for that. She lives underslung between the fore ring and the living quarters that are underslung rear.

Ah, OK. Asteroids make sense. As long as it has somewhere it can go and get dirty. ;)

I like the landing craft so far. :)

Yeah the lander/shuttle is blocky and influenced by Trek. I figure our future should be heavily influenced by what we see......right?
  • evil_genius_180evil_genius_1804256 Posts: 11,034Member
Yeah, I definitely noticed the Trek vibe going on with it. :)

Don't worry I have nods to other things coming as well.

Every good ship needs a mechanic I think. The arms are just place holders from a model I downloaded. Im not sure if hes going to keep going this direction or not.

This is looking really nice. I've been wanting to try a warp ring ship for a while. I like what you're doing with it.

The robot looks like a hugger. ;) The leg configuration reminds me of the utility droids from the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games.

Thanks Vortex trying to keep it utilitarian is a little tricky it seems. And Evil that was the main inspiration for the robot. I think this shuttle/lander "blocking" is a better direction for it.

I like the design. It's less Trek. Besides, as big a Trekkie as I am, I'm not overly fond of the blocky TOS shuttle.

Anyone have any suggestions on what size to make the texture map so letters dont alias?
  • evil_genius_180evil_genius_1804256 Posts: 11,034Member
I'd go with at least 4k (4096 x 4096.) Though, it also depends on how many maps total you're doing. If you're doing one map for the entire ship, you may want to go even bigger than that, 6k or 8k.
  • kvorshkkvorshk171 Posts: 76Member
Each ring is two textures one per half and they are at 4k now. Ill bump them up and see how that goes. Thanks!
  • evil_genius_180evil_genius_1804256 Posts: 11,034Member
No problem. 4k should be good unless you plan on an extreme closeup.

2-4K is probably going to be standard resolution within the next couple of years. Going 6-8K could give it an extra year or two of life, and if you wanted to keep 4K, you could always downscale the larger texture maps.
