Hello SFM!

Wanted to share an ongoing personal project. Few months ago I started working on some industrial spacecraft concepts. IA’ve been trying to incorporate cloth as a material more into my designs to help give a more authentic and functional feeling.

    Hello!

Superb concepts and modeling! The cloth is very well-done and textured. Can't wait to see more of this!

    Thats amazing!
I had feel i saw some familiar like this before,on conceptships blog.
And just see the website address on your image, and yep, thats it!
    HST 200A/B :)
    Always loved those two ship.
I really like to see how you make those cloth surface :P

Awesome work, and fantastic designs, very plausible creations. I like how the second design reminds me a little of the Millennium Falcon, or a Police Spinner from Bladerunner, was that intentional? I gather the idea behind the cloth covering is to provide some level of protection from space debris etc? Or is there another purpose for it?

Either way, great job. Looking forward to seeing more.

I think that most of the time that kind of quilted fabric you see on some spacecraft (particularly Russian Soyuz spacecraft) is for insulation...

looks amazing - though your rcs looks over sized - they look more like engines than thrusters if you know what i mean and for something that looks so 'real' the extra mass of those engines doesn't make sense easier to just turn the craft and use the main engines

but that said gotta go back to it looks amazing - far better than random hull tiles!

The others are good, but SAM-608 is exceptional.

Cloth work is pretty impressive there. Particularly like the first design... almost has a small submersible feel about it.

Awed by your skills, I love real world space craft just as much as fantasy, this machine is brutal looking and fit for space, cloth effect is superb, not even going to ask how you did that, looking forward to seeing how this ends up.

These are fantastic! So realistic I wouldn't be surprised to see NASA TV footage of them completing docking maneuvers.

    Very very nice....

Did you actually "model" the cloth? It just doesn't look like it could be texture only?

The clothe modeling is fantastic, makes it look quite plausible.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I appreciate it :)

@Talon_UK - The purpose of the cloth was mostly for thermal insulation. For the 2nd design I specifically wanted a spacecraft with a flat profile - I can see the MF similarities but I did not intentional set out to create a design based of it.

@sorceress21 - All the cloth is geometry, I used Marvelous Designer to get those results.

Here is another render of SAM-608 in action. Programs used were Max+Marvelous Designer + Zbrush + Vray + Photoshop

What is he doing with that Asteroid?
Really like the composition of this scene.
